Is Spanking Ever Good?
Corona Centennial 52  Serra 13

A spanking can be a good thing. The Bible says so.  Well, the Cavaliers got  a spanking Saturday night -- more than a spanking, a whuppin'. Will it be a good thing? We'll know six weeks from now.

Coach A says the Cavs haven't played that badly in ten years. But he also said that it wasn't a fluke: the Warriors are an exceptional team.

From the stands, it looked like the Cavs were just a skosh from being at least competitive. They moved the ball; there were some fine D plays. It doesn't make sense to single anyone out. There were no goats.  Everyone played 48 minutes. On that night, it was not to be. Come November, maybe we'll be saying we were lucky to get beat up at the Honor Bowl.

Next week the fast-healing Cavs play the 0-1 Carson Colts at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach. The Colts are 0-1 after a 34-31 loss to Fairfax. Carson is ranked 220 in California by Maxpreps, Serra, at the moment is 16.

Looking ahead, the competition is shaping up as follows:

Current Cal Rank
Loyola
2-0

Notre Dame

41
Bishop Amat
1-1
