Serra Families: Part 2
And, of course, '95 had Serra's first co-educational graduating class.
Angelina Publico and family have played an important role at Serra since the 60's. Angelina volunteered in various capacities while her 2 sons, Anthony and Peter, attended Serra in the '60s and '70s. In 1967, daughter Connie married Don Bohannon. Don joined Serra as a teacher and coach in the fall of 1973. Don went on to a 35 year career as a high school, JC (Harbor) and college (Whittier) coach. Connie enjoyed a successful career at Toyota.
In the 90's, Serra became co-ed and Angelina Publico's granddaughters, first, Gennifer '95, who then attended Chaminade College in Hawaii and became a Registered Nurse. Micheal '97 went on to Whittier College and became a teacher. Meanwhile, Don had returned to Serra as a coach as Micheal and Gennifer played softball, basketball and volleyball. With her grand kids at Serra, Angelina returned as a volunteer and spent 12 years assisting the great Father (now Monsignor) Sal Pilato. Father awarded Angelina Publico an Honorary Diploma from Serra High School. Daughter Connie continues the Publico/Bohannon Cavalier spirit and continues to volunteer in critical roles for Serra.
Even more....nephews Ricky Wyatt '98 and Daniel Wyatt '99 also attended Serra.
Don and Connie will both be at the 1975 reunion this Saturday at Serra.
Honorary Aluma, Mrs. Angelina Publico passed away on February 1, 2013.
