The Mt. Carmel Alumni Foundation

The Mt. Carmel Alumni Foundation holds a golf tournament and dinner each year to support schools in Deanery 16.  We support their event and they provide Serra some support..  This year members of the Class of '75 put together their own foursome on behalf of Serra. Rumor is they played very well.

Class of 1975 Reunion

The 1975 reunion had a great turnout for their 40 year reunion. Think they set a record for the number of proud new owners of Alumni Legacy Tiles. Want to feel proud of your school? We have 2 great links with must read comments from attendees.  Click here and here.

Fall Sports are Coming Soon

Pictured here is a representative of the Honor Bowl (click on the link to learn more about the Honor Bowl.) speaking about the history and traditions of the game to some of Serra's ballplayers. Serra will be playing in the Honor Bowl for the 3rd consecutive year. This year it is a rematch of last years Pac-5 play off game with eventual Pac-5 Champion Corona Centennial.

Kick off is at 7:30PM on Saturday, September 5 at Oceanside High School. If you are from Orange or San Diego country then make your plans to attend.

History of Serra

There has been a lot of interest in the early days of Serra High School.  Bro. Charles  Boglitz, SM  wrote "Diary of a High School" which takes Serra from its beginnings through the time the Marianists left in 1994.  You can click here to read it.

You can also go to Serra's website, click here, for a summary by Bro. Boglitz and a timeline by Father (now Monsignor) Sabato Pilato.

Here are some excerpts from the timeline:

1955: "Senior Walk originated by Senior Class '55"

1965: "Plans submitted to Msgr. Donald Montrose, Archdiocesan Superintendent of Schools regarding expansion of Serra. Plans later approved by the building commission and Cardinal McIntyre."

1975: "Tuition $500, up from $40 in the early years"

1985: 1) "Six of the eight sections of bleachers on west side of the stadium replaced. Last two sections replaced in 1986" 2) "Fr. Philbin acquires peacocks, other birds and rabbits for the campus"

1995: "First campus girls softball field constructed"

2005: "New snack bar, ticket booth, and restrooms constructed at south end of football field."
