The Lady Cavs

At the end of regulation

The Lady Cavs were behind the McClatchy Lions by 10, 46-36, with a minute to go in the Division 1 Girls State Basketball Championship Final last Friday night at the Haas Pavilion on the Cal Berkeley campus.

Then.......Jenny Albano launched a 3 pointer while Brooke Bayman was fouled at the same time,  Brooke hit the 2 free throws to complete a 5 point play with 58 seconds to go........then...........read the Daily Breeze......or .....the Sacramento Bee.............. regulation ended in a tie. The Lions finally won in a thrilling second overtime 65-61.

Dedication to Excellence

This years Dedication to Excellence Gala will be held May 2nd beginning at 6:00 p.m.. We are honoring PLACE Corps Director Diana Murphy and the role Loyola-Marymount's PLACE Corps has played in Serra's continuing success.

Father, now Monsignor and Superintendent of Archdiocese of Los Angeles High Schools, Sal Pilato played a critical role in bringing the PLACE Corps to Serra beginning with the 2001-02 school year.  We may have a story about that in the Dedication to Excellence Program. Consider that his action resulted in 21 PLACErs teaching at Serra..............including an Athletic Director, a Principal, a Life Team Director  and 6 PLACErs on campus today.

Below are more of the Serra PLACErs for the school years from 2006-2009. From left to right, Ted Dunlap, '06-'07, Christian De Larkin, '08-'09, and Jaclyn Torres, '08-'09.

If you graduated from Serra and graduated from Loyola or Loyola-Marymount,  this is a must attend event.

Serra Families

Joe Gorciak '71 pictured  on the left, attended the ordination of now Father Maurice Nelson' 66 (on the right) at the Trappist Monastery (link) in Carlton, Oregon. Maurice taught at Serra and among his students was Joe's brother Chris Gorciak '73.  Pictured in the middle is Father's brother Dave Nelson '63.  Dave is a charter member of Serra's Athletic Hall of Fame.  Richard Nelson '61 and Darryl Nelson '64, Dave and Maurice's brothers, are also Serra Alumni.

Watch out!

Serra's men's soccer team was filled with underclassmen this year and scared the bejabbers out of the league. Coach Rob Duffy is on the far right and Coach Mike Pederson, a PLACEr, is on the left.

Serra's Lady Cavalier soccer team finished second in league play and advanced to the CIF.  Watch them next year.

Class of '83

Leo Fifer '83 came to watch the Lady Cavs softball team play Bishop Montgomery.  We won't tell you why.  The Lady Cavs won 3-1.  Here's Leo with Serra trainer Tiffany Maston '99 on the right and student trainer Tatiana Orozco '18 on the left.  Leo plans on coming to the Booster's Car Show.  Tiffany will be at the Car Show and the Dedication too Excellence Dinner.
