Serra Model United Nations Team
Serra's Model UN Team received a special grant from a generous donor who underwrote the trip to New York to participate at the National High School Model UN conference. 3800 students from 158 high schools nationally, including international high schools, attended the largest Model United Nations Program ever held.
As a small school with 8 of its finest in attendance, Serra was assigned to represent the nation of Papua New Guinea. Brendan Reynolds, our Model UN adviser and English teacher, proudly reported that the Cavaliers displayed teamwork, were intensely involved in discussions and, controlled the flow of debate in their committees. The Serra (Papua New Guinea) delegation was integral in the development of recommended solutions that then appeared as written resolutions for their assigned topics.
When the opportunity appeared, Mr. Reynolds organized a visit to the 9/11 Memorial that included a full classroom workshop which covered 7 of the 10 history common core standards.
From left to right above, Freddy Soltero, Anthony Licea, Justin Nkemere, Jorrod Cook, Mr. Brendan Reynolds, Tommy Bothwell, Justin Shepherd, Grant Crudupt and J'son Jones are pictured at the dais of the UN General Assembly in the United Nations building.
