Record Setting Honor Assembly

An Honors Assembly is held each semester. The latest one set records.

62.5% of Seniors earned an Honor Assembly award.

38 Seniors  were recognized for making the Honor Roll.  The criteria for the Honor Roll is 3.5 to 3.9 grade point average.

42 more Seniors were recognized for making the Principals Honor Roll. The criteria for the Principals Honor Roll is 4.0 and above. These are serious achievements.

We can't be sure, but observation tells us another record was set. We think more parents attended than ever before. Here are some proud parents.

Lions Club Speech Contest

Senior Claudia Torres and Sophomore Jamal Clark are shown here with Mr. Don Dear, the former mayor of Gardena and the chairperson of the Gardena Lions Club Annual Speech Contest. Claudia and Jamal both delivered excellent speeches representing Serra High School.

From the same Barron's column and quoting Joel Klein from his book "Lessons of Hope" "....voucher programs are the only way to  quickly scale up high-quality alternatives to the....."

A version of the column appeared on Feb. 13, at Barron's.com.
