Much More Than
Just Another High School Play
It was a lot more than "Just Another High School Play." A packed house attended a Great High School Play Sunday afternoon. Shown is Jerome Thierry '81, among the greatest of Serra stage managers, with this year's stage manager Brandon Meadoux. After the show, the players were each presented a rose by alumni, parents, administrators, teachers, our 3 Marianists and 2 special Friends of Serra, Shonta Rose-Scoggins the Director of Eric's Vision....click on ericsvision.org and, if you run in 5K's, save the date March 14 and Maria Johnson, author of Roots 1. Alumni John Rout '63, Mike Almaraz '75 and Natalie Mendez '06 were among the alumni present Sunday afternoon.

The Dec. 1 edition of Sports Illustrated featured a story on former Pittsbugh Steeler great and now a part owner of the Steelers, John Stallworth. Mr. Stallworth has a foundation which has provided more than $350,000 in tuition aid to 135 students. Mr. Stallworth was quoted in the article as saying "The money we give to the kids, that changes them. That really excites me. I'm honored to be in a position to do that. I want to be able to look back and say we've been able to help some folks." Put yourself in a position to look back and be able to say "I've been able to help some folks."

Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary
"We honor Mary". These words from Marianist Father Ken Templin were shared with alumni, faculty, staff, students and their family members who gathered at our campus on Monday, December 8 to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. He invited us to reflect on what God might be calling us to this Advent and as Mary did, challenged us to say "yes" to God's call. In honor of this Marian feast, senior Alondra Carranco '15 shared with the entire congregation a moving speech about her own personal relationship with Mary.
As you continue to ready the way of the Lord in this second week of Advent, please remember to keep in prayer your Serra family. If you have any special prayers you would like us to include in our Serra book of prayer, please share them here.
Come pray with us at our next all school mass on Thursday, Jan 29, plan on 11 am.
Take Me Out To The Ball Game
Serra's baseball team gathered in 405 last Thursday to hear from Mike Toomey, the Assistant to the General Manager of the Kansas City Royals. Mr. Toomey delivered an inside look at what it takes to move from high school to college and beyond in the baseball world.......he let the baseballers know that hitting, fielding, pitching count ..........but they look at character as the base.
Cheerleaders
The Cheer leaders may be on their way to a national championship again. Saturday at UCLA Serra's squad ran up 90 points (that's a lot) to win their division.
International News
This year Serra is hosting 12 international students from various provinces in China and 2 students from Thailand. In 1963, Serra initiated an international student exchange program. That year we hosted Guillermo "Bill" Garcia -Salas from Guatamala, Gilles "Frank" Thierez from France, Rafael "Felo" Lazcano-Fravega. After 52 years, Gilles and his wife recently met up with his old classmate, here is a picture on Rafael's Facebook.
