Happy Birthday

Father Serra

Students, faculty, staff, and parents gathered on campus today to sing, pray, and eat cake in celebration of our school patron. Born in Spain on November 24, 1713 Miquel Josap Serra Ferrar was from a humble family and took the name "Junipero", after Saint Juniper when professing his life with the Franciscans. This would mark the beginning of life dedicated to spreading the good news. We all know and are proud of the outcome of what Father Serra's Sacred Expedition led to; the founding of our California missions. We often forget the kind of character necessary that such an accomplishment requires.

The strength and courage that Father Serra exemplified in his life is what we are all challenged and called to. During today's mass celebration, Marianist Father Ken Templin also reminded us to be thankful for these challenges that call us to succeed beyond adversity. As we celebrate Blessed Junipero Serra's 301st birthday, let us continue as a Serra High School family in the spirit of our patron.

Father Serra

Celebrating Blessed Serra's birthday, Serra parents served cake after Mass.  Joining our parents is Alumnus John Cragin '70 (he's the tall guy).  In addition to being an alumnus, John was a counselor, teacher, coach and vice-principal at Serra in the late '70s and early '80s.
