Junipero Serra High School Alumni Newsletter
Junipero Serra High School believes that students of all faiths and backgrounds deserve an academically challenging, spiritually enriching Catholic college preperatory education that forms them to become generous, responsible citizens and leaders
February was Career Day at Serra
O'my, Bernard McCumbry, frosh/soph counselor and assistant basketball coach, spearheaded a Career Day for our students. 50+ alumni and friends of Serra arrived on campus last Friday morning ready to staff the classrooms, talk about their careers and answer questions. 2 each were assigned to each classroom. Business women and men, engineers, police officers, medical people, attorneys, the military........name a business or profession and it was represented. In conversations during and after the day was over, each of the volunteers was impressed, and, in some cases, bowled over by Serra's students. The students benefited as well. In speaking with an 11th grade student who transferred to Serra, we received the response that "my old school never did anything like this."
Another Career Day
Serra had its Career Day. St. Anastasia elementary had one as well. Joe Cormier '81 Serra's Development Director was the key note speaker at St. Anastasia.
Dedication to Excellence

Dedication To Excellence Ticket Sales/Sponsorship honoring Mr. John McFarland is off to a great start.
How could you not want to meet the teacher of whom Father Charles Carpenter '63 said,"was a great teacher because he lived the part, kind of like the teacher in the movie The Dead Poets' Society."
With only 33 tables and 264 seats, this will be a sellout. So get your tables or tickets soon.
Sponsorship/ticket information is on the Serra website (Website Link). If you have not received your invitation and want one sent to you, call or e-mail Vince Kates at 310-324-6675 x3010 or [email protected]
Almost forgot, it is hard to attend an event with a better Silent Auction than Serra's Dedication to Excellence Gala.
