Junipero Serra High School Alumni eNewsletter

137 New Serra Alumni

137 young men and women graduated into the ranks of the Serra Alumni this past June. The new Alumni were awarded over $6 million in College and University scholarships.   If you visit Serra, the student scholarship list is on display.  The list makes you proud.  Quoting a '67 graduate who is close to Serra, "Serra is a profound institution."

August 16, 168 freshman begin their Serra Experience.  (See the Serra Experience attached)

Serra High School:

The Little School That Does

Serra State and CIF Championship Teams

Has any High School in the United States ever won 3 State Championships, 5 Regional C.I.F. Championships and 6 League Championships in the same year?

COACHES NIGHT IS COMING!!!

Goodness.  Serra High School has gathered some of the best high school coaches there are in the United States.  Of course, they are each technically proficient in the X's and O's of their sport.   This is obvious if you witnessed the Baseball teams' triple steal in the C.I.F. Championship or watched the Serra ladies basketball team defeat a much bigger team in the State Championship.

Our Swim, Volleyball, Soccer and Softball teams (men's Soccer and Ladies Softball each added to the Del Rey League Championship total) compete as hard and are as proud of representing Serra as anyone can be.

73% of our students participate in a sport.  Ask a Serra student athlete what their Grade Point Average is.  You will learn why they are called student-athletes, thanks to all our superb teachers and coaches.

Saturday evening, September 28, the Alumni and Development Office is sponsoring a "Meet the Coaches Night" in the Serra gym beginning at 5:00PM.  Tickets are limited at 245.  Invitations and registration forms will be mailed, e-mailed and posted on the website soon.

Old Guys Return

Lee Parker, Tom Alford, Paul Wood and Pete Henry organized the Class of '63 50 year reunion held on campus May 4rd

Take a look at these great Cavalier's.  At the reunion, we managed to settle the argument over who was Serra's youngest Principal.....Bro. Bolts or Christian DeLarkin.  It's worth noting that Tom Alford '63 volunteers as a Math tutor at Serra three afternoons a week.  Thank you, Tom.

Not Quite as Old Guys Return

The Class of 1973 gathered in the Serra cafeteria for their 40th reunion the night of May.  Roger Cosgrove, Ron Shepherd and Jim Ruiz did a great job organizing it.  Bro. Bolts attended and kept the crowd under control.

Cavalier Service

How Serra Alumni spend their time.  A few months ago, we reported that Ed Marzec '65 scaled Mt. Everest.  Today we can tell you about Pat Cavanaugh, one of three brothers, Pat '66, Jack '70, and Paul '73, who attended Serra.   Pat, along with five other riders over the age of 60, is on a cross country bike ride raising money for a great cause, the Wounded Warriors project.
