The Student Who Did the Most for Serra...
"A true Cavalier, heart, body & soul. May God bless his family with peace and strength. All Hail!
Monroe Wooten '69 wrote these words upon learning of the sudden passing of Bob Sawyer '61.
As a Cavalier, participated in Student Council, Sodality, The El Padre, Speech Club, Drama Club, Cheerleader and was # 29 on Serra's 1958 JV Football team. Bob served as Student Body President, and, to cap his career, He was elected by his classmates as "The Student Who Did Most For Serra."
Bob continued to do the most for Serra. He has served as Chair of the President's Advisory Council and has served on the Alumni Council. Bob did not talk about all he did, but when help for Serra was needed, Bob was there.
Bob will live on at Serra. The Serra Tuition Assistance Fund has been reconstituted as The Bob Sawyer Memorial Tuition Assistance Fund. At his family's request, in lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Bob's Memorial Fund.
There will be a Memorial Mass and service Saturday, March 21 at Noon in the Serra Gym.

A Letter Worth Sharing:
Good morning, I'm Charles Hornsby, Class of 1980. I took a trip to Washington State to see my nephew Greg Hornsby, Jr., at the beginning of the indoor track season. I got an Alumni Jacket a few years ago and brought it with me for the cold and snow of Eastern Washington.
I took my nephew, and some of his friends to dinner. One of his friends said to my nephew, "You never said your Uncle went to Serra." I told the friend, "That's right, A Cavalier for life."

Carl 'Truck' Trey '09 and
Charles Hornsby '80. |
The friend was Carl Winston '09. At the meet the next day, I met 2 more Alumni now at UCLA. It was a good feeling coming from a small school of 300+ then, 650 now. The student/athletes the school is producing are outstanding. It makes me Proud. I just wanted to share my experience. Hail to the Red! Hail to the Blue!!
Come Meet the Championship Coaches
If you don't know, Serra's Men and Women's Basketball Teams each reached their respective semi-finals for the State Championships. How often does a school have both Men and Women's teams get that far in the same year at any level of competition? The Lady Cavaliers were upended 46-36. The Men lost a nail biter to Price, 77-66. We will keep our promise and not mention the officiating.
Want to meet the Serra Ladies Coach Mac Hadley. Make sure you get your tickets to the Celebration of Excellence Dinner honoring Coach Dwan Hurt on April 21st at 6:00 PM in the Serra Gym. You may want to meet Coach Dwan Hurt as well. Since becoming Serra's Head Coach for the 88-89 season, Dwan's teams have won 6 Southern Section CIF Championships and 2 State Championships. In 2010, Coach Hurt won the California State Coach of the Year Award. In 2005, Coach was selected as a member of the Catholic Youth Organization Hall of Fame for his service to young peple. Click here for the Event Information. If you want an invite mailed to you, e-mail or call us. (See below)
At the event, Brian Quinn '59, who scored a few points at Serra and at Loyola LA, will introduce the Key Note Speaker, Jay Hillock, Manager of Player Personnel for the Chicago Bulls. Jay is bringing a surprise for the Silent Auction. In addition, we will be introducing Serra's first All-Catholic League player, Jim Muensterman '53. If you played Varsity Basketball at Serra, make sure you're here on April 21st.
