We have 88 Alumni Tile Orders to date. If you want you your Tile to be in the first group placed on the Alumni Wall, you must get your order to us by Friday, January 20 2012. We will reopen the Tile promotion on April 23rd. |
Dwan Hurt Celebrates 25-years
Dwan Hurt entered Serra as a Freshman in the fall of l977. Dwan graduated with the Championship Class of 1981. He then proceeded to Gonzaga University on a Basketball Scholarship. While there, he helped a teammate, John Stockton, become a pretty good basketball player.
Dwan graduated and returned to Serra in 1986 as an assistant Basketball Coach and teacher. Flash forward to today, Dwan Hurt has become Dean Hurt, Coach Hurt and the epitome of the Serra Man.
The evening of April 21, 2012, Serra will be honoring Coach Hurt on his 25th anniversary at Junipero Serra High School in Coach's 2nd home, the Serra Gym.
It appears it will be a "star studded" evening. Special guests, such as Jay Hillock, Director of Pro Personnel of the Chicago Bulls, have committed to attending. Mr. Hillock coached Dwan when he played at Gonzaga.
For the Silent Auction, we have already received a donation of an autographed football combined with an autographed color picture of the Game Day crew of Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit.
There will be more information coming soon. In the meantime, if you have questions, call Vince Kates '61 or Joe Cormier '81. |
Tough Guys
This Serra Football Team of the fall of 1957 holds a distinction which will last forever. While their win-loss record was 6 and 3, THEY WERE THE LAST CIF TEAM TO PLAY WITHOUT THE LUXURY OF FACE MASKS. These were tough guys !

Angie Kretzschmar
Every game the 1957 team played, as well as every game other Serra teams played from 1951 through 2000, they came on the field and rooted by Angie Kretzschmar. After 2000, Angie attended games when she could. The last game she was able to attend was Homecoming 2004. Angie started coming to Serra games in 1951 when she enrolled her twin sons Frank and John. Her third son, Bernard, followed in 1956. Angie Kretzschmar was born February 2nd 1915 and passed away January 29th 2007. As her birthday approaches, say a prayer. If you don't know already, the next time you see the scoreboard on the football field, note you are in the Angie Kretzschmas Stadium. |
