A SERENITY PRAYER

(Of Sorts)

Greetings!

Here's a little prayer for the next time that everything seems to be weighing you down and stressing you out.

Tea TimeG
od, grant me the serenity
to accept the people I cannot change,
which is pretty much everyone,
since I'm clearly not you, God.
At least not the last time I checked.

And while you're at it, God,
please give me the courage
to change what I need to change about myself,
which is frankly a lot, since, once again,
I'm not you, which means I'm not perfect.
It's better for me to focus on changing myself
than to worry about changing other people,
who, as you'll no doubt remember me saying,
I can't change anyway.

Finally, give me the wisdom to just shut up
whenever I think that I'm clearly smarter
than everyone else in the room,
that no one knows what they're talking about except me,
or that I alone have all the answers.

Basically, God,
grant me the wisdom
to remember that I'm
not you.

Amen

Children & Youth News

Sunday School Teachers What is it to be a Sunday School or Youth Leader?

Do you think you know what it is to be a Sunday School or Confirmation Leader at ELC? Are you sure? You may be surprised. On August 11th following the service, Chris will be hosting a gathering in Rising Chapel to tell you what volunteering with Sunday School or Confirmation would look like. All are invited, even if you are just curious. As our children and youth ministries keep growing and more and more young people are coming to God and to ELC, we need fresh faces to help with the activities for these groups. One urgent area of need is help with Sunday School and Confirmation.

Over the Rainbow T's Over the Rainbow T-Shirts to BenefitThe Night Ministry

From July through September, proceeds from the sale of Over the Rainbow t-shirts will benefit The Night Ministry. Founder Jimmy Kays started Over the Rainbow in 2011 after losing a close friend, Gio Consentino, to colon cancer. The operation started as an annual fundraiser to celebrate the life of Consentino and benefit local cancer charities.

This year, the event's third year, Kays decided to extend his fundraising efforts and has committed to donating the proceeds of Over the Rainbow t-shirt sales to four charities. Kays chose charities that are meaningful to him and Over the Rainbow supporters. Kays is particularly interested in helping LGBTQ homeless youth and turned to The Night Ministry.

"I know what it's like to be in their shoes," said Kays "It's my way of saying someone cares."  T-shirts are $27.50 and can be purchased by clicking n the link below.

And some Great News!

Thrivent

We recently were notified by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans that our Night Ministry project at ELC was approved for another $1,600.00 annual grant (the maximum amount). This is the third year in a row we have received a grant from Thrivent. The grant will allow us to continue to generously serve the clients of The
Night Ministry even beyond the funds allocated through the church budget. We are genuinely grateful for Thrivent's gift and continuing encouragement of our project.

20 durable/reusable rain ponchos
