Remembering Our Past
Looking Forward to Our Future |
|
|
Greetings!
Pat Godek was cleaning the church office last week and came across the poster you see below. She showed it to me and it brought back memories of a dramatic, scary time in the history of this church.
This poster was created during the week following the fire that destroyed the church building in January, 2010. As individuals, we were dealing emotionally with our tragic loss. As a congregation, we were trying to work out how to restore our church building; and, just as important, how we could continue to worship together in the coming months. Luckily, Edgebrook School offered us the use of their auditorium for our service on the Sunday morning immediately following the fire. This sign was posted on the door of the church to inform people of the new, temporary location of our service.
To tell you the truth, I could almost cry when I look at this poster. In one image, it reminds me of just how brave, how hopeful, how thankful, and how trusting in the Lord we were in those dark times. "Rejoice with us! We are now worshipping...." At a time when we could have wrung our hands and said, "Poor us!" we thanked the Lord for his many blessings (no one was hurt, we were fully insured, and we had the strength and energy to deal with this tragic event) and moved on with the task at hand.
I am sure that this is but one event in the long history of Edgebrook Lutheran Church when the congregation showed courage in the face of adversity and uncertainty. We are now getting ready to celebrate the church's 75th anniversary. The Anniversary Steering Committee will begin to meet next month to plan a year-long celebration of this important event. We will be taking this time to remember the many events in our history and the many people that brought us to 2014. We will also be looking forward to the next 75 years and envisioning where our congregation will go in those years.
We invite you to take part in this planning process. Share with us your memories of our church's past; tell us your ideas for our church's future. Watch this email, the monthly What's Up and the bulletin for more news about this exciting upcoming event.
Yours in Christ,
Carol Beu Communications Team Leader

Welcome Michael Kellerhals, our new part-time Office Administrative Assistant!
ELC has been growing by leaps and bounds this past year, and as we grow, so does the workload for our office staff. To meet this need and make sure that all office tasks are carried out efficiently and effectively, Council asked Personnel to hire a part-time office administrative assistant. After several weeks of resume reviews and interviews, we are delighted to announce that Michael Kellerhals has joined our staff. Michael will be in the office Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. If you're stopping by the office in the next few weeks, please take a moment to introduce yourself to him. Look for more information about Michael in the July "What's Up". |
4th of July Parade
Edgebrook Lutheran Church will again have a presence in the 4th of July parade. We are in need of people to walk and ride their bikes as we hand out fliers for VBS. We are asking people to come to the church at 10:15 am to be ready for the parade start at 11:00 am. Also, we encourage you to bring some candy to pass out and share with the parade goers.

Week Day Meeting Space
Attention all committee and team leaders: If your group meets during church office business hours (8 AM-4 PM Monday-Friday) and does not include Pastor Joe, the Personnel Team asks that you please hold your meetings in the church. The Luther Room, Parlor and Fellowship Hall all offer great, comfortable meeting space for small and large groups. Holding "non-Pastor Joe" week day meetings in the church helps us control noise and traffic in the office, and helps our staff get their work done. Thanks!
