Greetings!
Last Sunday's worship was amazing! We baptized twin infant boys and 2 young men of our church affirmed their baptismal vows in the rite of confirmation. The church was filled with members of the congregation and loving family and friends of the infants and confirmands. The Bell Chorus was on hand to lend their talents to the occasion and the Chancel Choir was out in full force to enhance the service.
There were many wonderful moments in the service. One of the highlights was the anthem, "Borning Cry" sung by the Chancel Choir. A moving hymn, the words touch on the major milestones in the life of a Christian-birth, baptism, marriage, aging and death. This song has been known to reduce singers to tears as the stanzas unfold and I am sure that there were many damp eyes in our congregation as our choir sang these moving words.
This song was written by Norwegian-American song writer, John Ylvisaker. Now 75, he was born in Moorhead, Minnesota and is a graduate of Concordia College located there. During the last 45 years John's words and music have been a powerful influence on the development of new worship materials for the church, with his compositions appearing in hundreds of worship resources. Interestingly, as we listened to "Borning Cry" last Sunday, hundreds of people gathered at Wartburg College in Iowa to celebrate the life and career of John Ylvsiaker.
If you didn't get a chance to hear the choir sing this wonderful anthem or simply want to hear it again, click on the link below to listen to this wonderful hymn.

Mission Trip Fundraiser: "Cleansing of the Cars" on June 9
Come to service on this Sunday and get your car washed. Our youth are planning to wash all the cars in the parking lot during service and then stick around afterwards to wash cars for the purpose of raising funds for our summer mission trip. We have again been blessed with a matching grant from Thrivent and hope to raise $3,200 from freewill offerings so that we can receive a $1,600 matching grant. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

VBS is Coming!
From July 29 through August 2, Edgebrook Lutheran Church will be transformed to rockin' kingdom as we hold Kingdom Rock, this summer's Vacation Bible School. The program will run from 6:30 - 8 pm and sign-up will take place online through the edgebrooklutheran.org website. Save the dates and we hope to celebrate God's kingdom together during this great week. |
The Saturday Evening Discussion Group
Do you have questions about church history, Lutheran liturgical practices, the Bible, etc? Bring your questions and join the informal discussion group that meets with Pastor Joe every Saturday in the sanctuary at 4 p.m. before the Spoken Word Service. Topics discussed are submitted informally by the persons in attendance and are wide ranging and always interesting.
Come and join the discussion, even if you would only prefer to listen. No preparation or homework is necessary. Everyone is welcome! |
Cantata Summer Rehearsal Schedule
It's not too late to join the Edgebrook Lutheran Church cantata choir. We will be singing Faure's Requiem in November. The work is beautiful, but not difficult, so please don't be intimidated. We rehearse weekly this summer on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. in the choir room.

Attention All Ministry, Team and Committee Leaders!
There is a 6 month planning meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m in Fellowship Hall. Please bring any and all calendar events that need to be added or discussed along with your personal 2013 and 2014 calendar. It's important that we have representation from all of the teams, ministries and committees of the church so that we can prevent scheduling conflicts down the road.
This is very important as we move towards Fall. With Summer coming, most of us take a break and the church calendar should be ready for fall. Also, next year being our 75th Anniversary, we need to have each month planned for special events.
Everyone is invited, if you have an interest or an idea for a church event, please attend. This is not a private meeting.
Any questions, please give Pastor a call.

What do Lutheran's Believe? Come and Find Out!
Ever asked that question? Maybe you've never thought about it. Maybe you learned about it once but can't quite remember it all. Maybe you want to be better able to tell others what it is you believe.
If so, then I would invite you to be part of our "Digging Deeper" adult group which will be taking place over the summer. Beginning on Sunday, June 2, the instructors from the youth Confirmation will be walking through Luther's Small Catechism.
We'll meet on Sunday's after service for an hour (from 11-Noon) in the lower level of the education wing and then on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Church House. For more information, contact the church office or email youth@edgebrooklutheran.org.
