His presentation will include information from his book, The ABC's of Reading Alaska's Small Rivers and Streams, which provides a detailed breakdown of the different types of water normally encountered on Alaska's rivers and streams including the following:
1. A description of each type of water
2. Their benefits to the fish
3. How to fish the different types of water
Kelly's book, The ABC's of Reading Alaska's Small Rivers and Streams will be available for purchase at the meeting.

AFF 2013 Annual Auction Volunteer Team
Well, folks, again it's that time of the year when we start getting ready for the AFF Annual Auction. I know mid-April sounds like a long way off, but it takes a lot of work and a stretch of time to get everything ready for a great auction.
To date, we have a small group to serve as the core team, but we'll need much more help, especially during the final run-up.
First, we'll need assistance from anyone who has items to contribute or consign - or who can solicit donations from businesses, organizations, or individuals who might be willing to help us out. Not only can contributors claim a tax deduction, but they will be listed on a "Contributors" page of our website (revised annually). Businesses will have space for address, phone, website and maybe a small logo.
Second, we'll need about 30 people in direct support of the auction itself. I'm hoping most/all of the folks who volunteered last year will be available again, and we'll welcome anyone else who wants to lend a hand.
Third, we'll need a dozen or so people every evening of the week of the auction. We have to categorize, sort, and tag all the donations; enter everything into the database; coordinate its move to the Millennium Hotel, etc.
And, as usual, we'll need as many people as we can get to distribute flyers and otherwise help to advertise the event.
The next meeting is on January 8, 2013, 6:00pm.... meeting place to be announced... Please RSVP to me at alaskagirl49@gmail.com or call 907-854-1503.
Many thanks.

Volunteers Needed
Project Healing Waters is looking forward to another fabulous year in 2013. During October, over 250 injured soldiers returning from Afghanistan were assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit at JBER. In an effort to help them transition to civilian life, we are meeting with them and providing fly fishing activities to "hook" them into our favorite sport of fly fishing. Our activities are expanding this year and we need your help. Our activities include teaching fly casting, tying, float tubing, rod building, lake fishing, stream fishing, and salmon fishing as well as leading fishing trips. Volunteers are needed for these activities as well as to help raise funds because all activities are provided free of cost to soldiers and veterans. Make one of your New Years Resolutions VOLUNTEERING in our community!!! Come share your passion for fly fishing and fly tying with "Those Who Serve". You can contact Mike Malone or Jan Schnorr at PHWAlaska@gmail.com for information about VOLUNTEER opportunities. Additional information and contacts can be viewed at: AFF Website Page on Project Healing Waters Project Healing Waters Alaska for updates and PHW news.

It has come to pass that there is a new law in the land that bans the use of felt bottom boots in Alaska waters and I know some anglers that are very upset about this new law. Mostly, they say, they are concerned about personal wading safety. So what is this all about anyhow?
I describe this action as preventive maintenance, as for your home or vehicle, or preventative health care, such as an annual medical physical or a twice-yearly visit to the dentist. I believe that is exactly what it is all about. But what is the point of these kinds of activities? The point is; it is easier, more efficient, and cost effective to prevent a disease or the failure of some part than it is to stop, contain, or cure a problem after it has begun. It is no different from the challenges of stopping, containing, or curing damages that may result from introduction of a non-native plant (such as knotweed), fish (such as carp or northern pike), bird (such as starlings), mammal (such as rabbits in Australia), or other organisms (such as zebra mussels or a flu virus).
