The pumps have minimized the flooding to a more manageable amount; however, this temporary solution may not be the correct way to solve a progressing problem. More >
Southeast Regional Compact Sea Level Rise Working Group Reconvened
In light of this year's IPCC Report from NOAA, revised Sea Level Rise (SLR) Considerations from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the 2014 National Climate Assessment SLR projections, the SE Florida Regional Climate Change Compact SLR Working Group is reconvening to update their projections through 2100. Dr. Jane Southworth and Jonathan Dain received this year's award for their superior contributions to the FCI and its programs on the UF campus and abroad. Both fellows receive a 3 year stipend in recognition of their efforts in climate research, education, and outreach. More >

Florida Center for Environmental Studies Welcomes New Director
Dr. Colin Polsky joins FAU as Professor of Geosciences and successor to Dr. Leonard Berry, who founded CES in 1994 and remains active as Emeritus Professor of Geosciences. Dr. Polsky has joined Dr. Berry on the Executive Board of the FCI. More >
New Funding at FAMU Center for Water and Air Quality
Dr. Odemari Mbuya has received funding for 2 new projects from USDA-Forest Service: (1) Influence of Forest Management Alternatives on Soil Water Relationships in the Panhandle Region of Florida ($59,500) and (2) Forest Soil Seed Bank and Vegetation Management in Apalachicola National Forest ($50,000).
New Funding at UF Geological Sciences
Dr. Andrea Dutton has received funding from NSF for a project titled "CIF21 DIBBS: Cyberinfrastructure for Interpreting and Archiving U-Series Geochronologic Data." Uranium-series geochronology plays a critical role in understanding the time-scales and rates of climate change, sea-level change, and volcanic activity.
