Me
Captain Ed's    Sailing

Summer is finally here, and in full swing. I have had a great month of June, #1 sailing the Bella Donna during some great sails with some great clients the last being John Reilly who was finally able to leave his baby with a sitter and bring his wife along.

Kathy Champagne also joined us on that trip as we left Cashman park at 2pm and returned just about 7:30, which reminds me what a relaxing way to spend some time after work during the week. With few boats on the water, and light winds these evening sails are awesome.

#2 living on the Sarah Maria has also been an experience so far as Mika and I are adjusting to boat life just fine. I personally get a lot more exercise than I normally would as everything from getting ice to going to the bathroom involves a trip to shore and a walk.

This weekend believe it or not I had no charters so Mika the Wonder Dog and I took the  Sarah Maria out to Rockport, Ma, staying over night Saturday and Sunday, anchoring off of Sandy Beach and enjoying a salmon dinner on George Macgown's 42ft Saber, Dream Catcher.

Ed Ferris joined me for the trip back to Newburyport on Monday, as I needed his help in trying to get my autopilot to work since I will need it for my trip south as the weather turns. We still have not gotten the auto pilot working, but we did have a nice sail back from Rockport.

Coming into Newburyport I brought the Sarah Maria up to the town dock for the night to fill the water tank, and do some cleaning, it is nice to just walk off of the boat when Mika needs a walk.

I was not to disappointed that I had no charters this past weekend because I have been busy, plus as the Forth of July is approaching I have a full schedule until at least Sunday, July 6.

The summer is still young, with daylight until 9pm, this is the time to book a sailing trip with Captain Ed's Sailing, whether a sailing class, a Family Hands on Sail, or an evening Sunset Sail with family, or friends.

I am trying to make it a little easier to buy on line with a credit card so if you would like to buy a gift certificate for a Family Sail, or an evening sail click here for the link to pay pal I will be adding the cuopons for other classes as well later.

Many of you know that I have to follow the weather very closely and during the sailing season I get up in the middle of the night to check the RADAR and weather reports especially the Passage Weather site. The passage weather site is a site that we used, and found extremely accurate for the trip we made to the Virgin Islands in 2010. The passage weather site gives a seven day forecast but I think it is most accurate for a three day forecast. Pecking around the Passage weather site will give you a great idea what the weather anywhere is doing. The other site that I like to use is Maine Harbors, locally (New England) it will give an excellent report as well as tides and temperatures.

Using these sites for the most part keeps out of trouble, although weather is weather, you just don't know. Check out these sites as well as the SPOT. I will activate the SPOT today, and again during my trip.

Also think of taking a boating course through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, or through Boatwise, we can cover the stuff you learn during Captain Ed's Sailing classes. Stay warm think spring.
