Ed Ferris

Ed Ferris on his sailboat Mud Slide

Greetings!
The Bella Donna , and the Sarah Maria are now both sitting on their moorings ready to sail this summer. Sailing lessons and charters will be held on the Bella Donna, and special charters, and navigation lessons will be held on the Sarah Maria for those who have proven competent on the Bella Donna.
This past weekend I helped Ed Ferris bring his 25 ft Catolina sailboat from Newburyport to Ipswich MA. It rained most of the time, with little wind , but that boat is also now sitting comfortably on her mooring in Ipswich Bay. Ed Ferris is becoming a pretty competent sailor as he learns to sail Mudslide single handedly.
This coming weekend we will have a basic sailing class from 8 AM until 2 PM on Saturday, this class will explore the operation of a cruising sail boat while both under power and sail.
As soon as the weather lifts we will also try to have a casual sail this week, as well as a family sail on Sunday for those who may wish to spend fathers day sailing as a family.
Other things

Greetings!
Sailing is not for everyone, so I try to list other things that you would like to try while in the Newburyport area. This past week I met William Barrett the new owner of The EZ Pedaler located at 40R Merrimac St Newburyport MA. between Davis electric and the Newburyport chamber of commerce. He is selling as well as renting motorized bicycles. Check him out as this is something that I may want to try before the summer is over. Also don't forget Captains Fishing Parties out at the end of Plumb Island . I like the flounder fishing trips as I don't often have the time or desire to be out fishing for a full day, I also like coming home with fish.
Check out Paul Nguyen Photography site.
Also look for more details coming as to chartering the Ker Mor out of Port Royal Sound this fall.

News from the Bella Donna

With the bad weather and late launch of the Bella Donna I was able to get her looking a little more spiffy than in past years. Inside the boat is nice and clean and empty. Except for a few tools and safety equipment there is no stuff just hanging around. I found a worn exaust hose that has since been repaired and the engine is running great. Outside the boat we are now looking at brand new rigging installed by  North East Rigging Systems including a new Harken furling system for the head sail.

A couple of years back the boat was hit hard by the wake of a motor boat and the table ripped off of the wall . That has also been repaired and ready to hold a set of charts for our navigation classes. With the new rigging we will have the confidence to sail the Bella Donna safely in almost any weather.

Call me and book a lesson or a hands on family charter, save some money with the coupons below.

Sarah Maria

The Sarah Maria is now sitting on her mooring in Amesbury Ma. This boat has also been overhauled with new rigging last year, and new electronics this year. Within the past few weeks I have installed a new depth finder, and auto pilot as well. When you are on the Sarah Maria you can feel the solid quality of the Southern Cross Sail Boat. When I am on the Sarah Maria I feel that the boat should be somewhere much warmer than Amesbury Ma.

The Sarah Maria is also quite empty with no "stuff" just hanging around. I have started loading some food incase I decide to head out to Rockport for a couple of days , which I will do as soon as I have a chance. While in Rockport I will offer a casual sail from there for those who would like to meet there.

A trip from Rockport would put us farther out to sea and give us a better chance of seeing some whales during our sail.

Other than some casual sails and special charters the Sarah Maria will be used to do the all day sailing class for those who have proven themselves on the Bella Donna. Email me at Captain Ed's sailing to sign up for sailing lessons or a casual sailing trip.

Captain Ed's Sailing has been doing charters out of Newburyport  Massachusetts since 2005. Well over 200 people have gone through either a Basic Sailing , a navigation class, or a family hands on sailing charter. We offer hands on sailing instruction in a very relaxed easy to understand manner.
