For choral music fans around Europe, it is becoming a May tradition : for an overview of contemporary choral music, performed by the top professional choirs in Europe, the Belgian city of Mechelen is the place to be.
Three Tenso choirs perform In Mechelen, Cappella Amsterdam (NL) under conductor Daniel Reuss will perform the world premiere of .... souffler sur quelques lueurs.... by French composer Laurent Durupt (see below), the winner of the 2011 Tenso Young Composers Award, in a programme with works of Ton de Leeuw and Daan Manneke. Nils Schweckendiek and his Helsingin kamarikuoro (FI, photo) will present a concert with Finnish choral classics; Musicatreize (FR), under Roland Hayrabedian, will bring recent works of Alexandros Markeas, Guy Reibel and others to Mechelen.

Festival finale : premiere of Belgian composer Wim Henderickx The weekend will be filled with workshops for young composers and amateur singers, masterclasses for young conductors, lectures, expositions and more. On Sunday afternoon, the festival finale is a premiere of Visione ed Estasi of Belgian composer Wim Henderickx (photo), performed by the three Tenso choirs assisted by seven local amateur choirs, conducted by James Wood.
