Tenso Days Mechelen | Friday 16 - Sunday 18 May

 

Since 2005, Tenso members, together with local partners, organize the Tenso Days, a travelling festival to present contemporary choral music performed by the best of Europe's chamber choirs. The concerts are set off by seminars, workshops and other activities. This month, Tenso Days will be organized in the framework of the Festival van Vlaanderen / Mechelen hoort stemmen.

The Latvijas Radio Koris will perform a new work of the winner of last year's Tenso Young Composers Workshop, Eugene Birman, together with works of Vasks, Esenvalds and others.

 

DR Vokalensemblet will bring a programme with Danish and Swedish composers such as Rasmussen and Norgard.

 

RIAS Kammerchor will perform a new work by Dutch composer Rob Zuidam, with music of Henze and Monteverdi. 

 

Joris Blanckaert has written Grotesques, a new work for the combination of the three choirs that will be performed in Mechelen's impressive cathedral.

At the workshops, you can join discussions about a well balanced program for a contemporary choir concert, composing for choral music, sing along with the Latvijas Radio Koris or witness the six selected young composers at work (see below) during the Tenso Young Composers Workshop, with the DR Vokalensemblet under direction of James Wood.

Tenso Young Composers Workshop: announcing the first round participants

 

Six composers have been selected for the first round of the 2014 edition of the Tenso Young Composers Workshop, which will take place from 16 - 18 May during the Tenso Days in Mechelen (Belgium).

 

Meet Gregory Emfietzis (Greece), Ana Gnjatović (Serbia), Francesca Le Loh� (United Kingdom), Alejandro Mata (Mexico), Nuno Da Rocha (Portugal) and Georgi Sztojanov (Bulgaria / Hungary) right here!

Tenso 14-18 : from poetry to music
new website online

 

The official launch of the project Tenso 14-18 from poetry to music will take place in June - but have a sneak preview - and contribute!

 

Tenso 14-18 brings to life the poems and texts that were written during the Great War and immediately after, and use these as the basis for new choral repertoire.

Looking back: Tenso Professionals Meeting in Berlin (8-9 April)

"From learning to practice - what does it take to create choral music": this was the topic of this year's Tenso Professionals Meeting. We look back at a very fruitful meeting, and will make the results and follow-ups available soon at our website. Some photos are available, more to follow.

 

Upcoming: Tenso Days Riga

Organized by founding member Latvijas Radio Koris, in the framework of Rīga Cultural Capital of Europe 2014, the second edition of Tenso Days in Latvia will bring concerts, workshops and more.

 

Upcoming: Tenso Europe Chamber Choir 2014

From 14 - 24 July, 24 young singers will gather in Riga for an intensive summer school. The singers will work with conductor Kaspars Putniņsh, vocal coach Geert Berghs and theatre coach Zane Kreicberga. Get to know the young singers.
