"Life after Live Music"
Tenso Professionals Day Paris, 17 & 18 June 2011

SAVE THE DATE! The next Tenso Professionals Day, 17 & 18 June 2011 in Paris, will focus on the production and distribution of recorded music. For many musical ensembles recordings are a priority and are accompanied by high expectations. But in a world that is increasingly 'digital' there is a need to re-examine how best to manage those expectations while achieving the organization's recording goals.

Starting with the basic question "Why do we record and what are our expectations?" the Paris Professionals Day will, with the help of experts from all over Europe, examine a number of topics including different models for the production of  recordings, rights issues and distribution through traditional and newly emerging media.

More information will follow in the new year.

Tenso Network Expands
Tenso Network Europe welcomes two new members:
Cor de Cambra del Palau de la Música (Barcelona)
DR Vokalensemblet (Copenhagen)

The current seven members of the Tenso Network are pleased to welcome Catalan's Cor de Cambra del Palau de la Música and and Denmark's DR Vokalensemblet.  The decision to join was taken after both organizations attended Oslo Tenso Days last September.  Since then they have been actively working with the regular members to shape future Tenso activities and both new members are keen to participate in and host future Tenso Days.

Composers Workshop Round #2
Three finalists selected for a second workshop (Riga, March 2011)

Three finalists - Laurent Durupt (France 1978), Lauri Mäntysaari (Finland 1982) and Maria Kallionpää (Finland 1981) -  have been selected for the second part of The Choir as Instrument workshop in Riga on 10 & 11 March 2011. They were chosen from the six participants  (selected from 91 applicants) who attended the first part of the workshop in Oslo, September 2010.  While in Riga, the three young composers will work with James Wood, Leo Samama, Kaspars Putninsh and the Latvijas Radio Koris. One of the three finalists will be awarded a commission for an a capella piece for chamber choir, to be premiered by a number of Tenso choirs.

Tenso Days 2011

The next edition of Tenso Days is set for 19 to 21 September, 2011, and will be hosted by Marseille's Musicatreize. Tenso Days will be presented in conjunction with the 20 Lieux sur la Mer (20 Sights by the Sea) festival. RIAS Kammerchoir of Berlin, Cappella Amsterdam, Nederlands Kamerkoor, Det Norske Solistkor, Latvijas Radio Koris and Paris based accentus are among the professional chamber choirs that will present concerts during Tenso Days 2011 which will be held in Aix-en-Provence.
Festival 20 Lieux sur la Mer (15 to 21 September, 2011) is centered around the two day "Journées du Patrimoine" (Heritage days) where it is a tradition to open many different buildings and private spaces to the general public. The festival is a biennial event that was started in 2007 to mark the twentieth anniversary of Musicatreize and is supported by Marseille-Provence European Capital of Culture 2013. Twenty different venues will host short 20 to 30 minute concerts which the public generally discovers as they tour different buildings and spaces.  Although all types of music are explored - from Baroque to traditional Eastern to modern classical - there is a predominance of vocal and contemporary music. For this year's festival, Musicatreize will be joined by the Neue Vocalsolisten of Stuttgart and the Nederlands Kamerkoor of Amsterdam.

More information will follow in the new year.
