Important Updates
Deadline Extended - Pain Assessment and Follow-Up Reporting Measure
In the Final Rule for the Calendar Year (CY) 2015 End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Prospective Payment System (PPS), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) required that facilities report Pain Assessment and Follow-Up Reporting Measure data for the first six months of the CY 2016 performance period before August 1, 2016. This data is instrumental in implementing the reporting measure for the ESRD Quality Incentive Program (QIP) starting in Payment Year (PY) 2018.
Earlier this summer, CMS implemented a new two-part identity management system for the ESRD Quality Reporting System (EQRS). To accommodate the transition from the QualityNet Identify Management System (QIMS) to the new QualityNet Account and Role Management (QARM) application, CMS wants to ensure that users have sufficient time to access and report data for this reporting measure in CROWNWeb. As a result, CMS is informing the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network Organizations (Networks) that it has extended the deadline for facilities to submit Pain Assessment and Follow-Up Reporting Measure data in CROWNWeb from July 31, 2016 to August 15, 2016.

Prepare for 2016 - 2017 Flu Season
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) recommend that all U.S. health care workers get vaccinated annually against influenza. Read more about who is included in this recommendation and why vaccination is especially important for these professionals.

Health care workers include (but are not limited to) physicians, nurses, nursing assistants, therapists, technicians, emergency medical service personnel, dental personnel, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, autopsy personnel, students and trainees, contractual staff not employed by the health-care facility, and persons (e.g., clerical, dietary, housekeeping, laundry, security, maintenance, administrative, billing, and volunteers) not directly involved in patient care but potentially exposed to infectious agents that can be transmitted to and from health care workers and patients.

Hospital Alert System Improves Care Coordination at Northwest Kidney Centers
For many dialysis patients at Northwest Kidney Centers in the Seattle area, kidney failure is just one of multiple health issues they must manage. And although our excellent nurses, dialysis technicians, dietitians and support staff work hard to educate all patients about caring for their access site, sticking to the kidney diet and managing their blood pressure, even the most diligent can wind up in the emergency department due to an infection, cardiovascular event or something unrelated to dialysis - a stroke, broken hip, pneumonia.
The Emergency Department Information Exchange - used at hospitals across Washington state - is an electronic subscription service that facilitates better care coordination between emergency departments and community health care providers like Northwest Kidney Centers.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month
National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance held in August to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. NIAM was established to encourage people of all ages to make sure they are up to date on the vaccines recommended for them. Communities have continued to use the month each year to raise awareness about the important role vaccines play in preventing serious, sometimes deadly, diseases.

NIAM is sponsored by the National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC). For more information on the observance, visit NPHIC's NIAM website.

User Onboarding for the ESRD Quality Reporting System (EQRS)
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has implemented a new two-part identity management system for the ESRD Quality Reporting System (EQRS) in the past several weeks. CMS wishes to ensure that the onboarding of current and new users into EQRS goes smoothly in light of the upcoming ESRD QIP Preview Period.
All EQRS users need to register in the new Enterprise Identity Management (EIDM) system. If you have not established an EIDM account yet, please register for your EIDM ID as soon as possible by completing the following steps.
  1. Use your web browser to navigate to
  2. Click on the "New User Registration" link in the "CMS Secure Portal" box on the right side of the web page.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the process to request your EIDM user ID using the email address associated with your CROWNWeb, REMIS, and ESRD QIP accounts.
CMS will release additional guidance for requesting your QualityNet Authorization Role Management (QARM) system access in the near future. QARM Security Officials will approve ESRD QIP roles in the QARM system.
EIDM information and documentation can be found in the FAQ section of the CMS Portal website. Additional information on the EIDM/QARM Transition is being shared through the CROWNWeb EIDM and QARM Quick Start Guide, as well as CROWNWeb Training Sessions found on (schedule and additional resources available at
