NEW
STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (SIS) 2013-14
| |
Dear Parents and OLF Families,
At OLF we continue to strive for school improvement, addressing the different needs of our learning community. We recognize the need to have accurate information on student progress, school events and general communication.
In 2013-14, we will join other Diocesan schools in adapting a new Student Information System (SIS) called Sycamore. This communication and administrative tool will enable us to post information in a timely and effective manner, as it provides one platform for all data.
As a parent, you can expect that you will log into the system through our new website, which we aim to complete very soon. Sycamore SIS will be accessible to authorized users only, including parents, students, faculty, staff, coaches etc. You will be able to obtain your child's information in one central place, showing both student-specific and general school information. You will be able to monitor your child's progress, look at grades, individually tailored calendars, review assignments, see your child care charges, check on payments and more.
Currently, we have three staff members in training to assist with the data migration and other information in order to get ready for next school year. By participating early in this pilot project, we are able to save some money for our school. By 2015, this will be mandatory for all Catholic schools in the Diocese.
We hope to better serve you and your child by increasing the timely flow of communication and the digital tools you can access 24/7 on your own.
You may want to explore
sycamore education by clicking here! Since this is several months from implementation, we will announce the transition and training sessions for parents. Gradelink and TeacherWeb will not be used after completion of this transition to Sycamore SIS. We look forward to a more effective communication system!
Blessings,
Beate Nguyen, M.A. Ed

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION 2013
| |
OLF students began Earth Day Celebration 2013 last Sunday, by participating in the Young Author's Faire 2013 sponsored by the Orange County Department of Education. While few students were able to attend the event in Santa Ana, we had two of our young authors present their work on stage. Mia and Tatum from 5th Grade did a great job in representing our school, and John Paul made sure his masterpiece was showcased in public!
On Monday, at the Earth Day Assembly all students participated in the skits, songs, and prayers for good environmental stewardship. With humor, dramatizations and interaction, the message was clear: "God created Earth and we need to take care of His gift to us!
Please join us at this Wednesday's Parent Meeting for the distribution of certificates for all participant classes and individual authors of the
2013 Young Author's Faire "Color Me Green!"

Calendar changes for June! | |
At the beginning of the school year, we indicated that we had scheduled 183 school days while needing only 180 student-contact days to fulfill our Diocesan commitment. This was done to allow for potential modification in case of unforeseen events, such as power outages like last year, etc. We have come through this year without anticipated challenges. Therefore, we complete the 180 school days successfully by June 11th.
Please revise your calendar as follows:
Last day for students is Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
This will be a minimum day; Students will attend Parish Mass at 8:30 a.m. and the day will conclude with the Concert in the Falcon's Quad at 10:00 followed by our traditional promotion ceremony.
Last day for teachers is Friday, June 14, 2013.
This allows the teachers to complete their contractual obligations a few days earlier. We appreciate your flexibility and support, and look forward to seeing you for the Concert on June 11. Click for letter calendar adjustments 2013 ! |
