Welcome to OLF

     Educating students

to become Catholic leaders

of the 21st Century!

 HABEMUS PAPAM!
Dear Parents and OLF Families,

On Wednesday morning, we prayed a special prayer at the morning assembly in support of our church leaders. Students had followed the events in the Vatican and we prayed as the Conclave of Cardinals reconvened.

Then, at lunch time, you could have heard a pin drop in our "Falcon's Quad" courtyard. Usually during this time of day, the school is filled with laughter, playful shouts and loud noises. This Wednesday was different. On March 13th, at around 11:00 a.m. every single OLF student was glued to the digital transmission of the Conclave in the Vatican.

White smoke had risen! Like a wildfire, the word spread around campus and teachers started supporting each other to capture the live streaming on their digital classrooms tools.

Lunch bags made their way into the classrooms in a hurry in preparation for the big event. The anticipation was great! Who would be the next pope? Captured by the pictures coming from St. Peter's Square, one could tell that our 8th Graders were surprised to see so many young people waiting in the crowd! They compared notes with each other on which Cardinal might be the next Holy Father.

Then the announcement came in Latin: "Habemus papam", "we have a pope,"..."we have glorious news!" Pope Francis, first Latin American pope, first Jesuit pope, was elected to represent Christ shepherd on earth and our Catholic church.
Our children witnessed a historic event that they will not forget quickly. I wondered, if our younger students thought that "our prayers must have worked!"

Blessings,

Beate Nguyen, M.A. Ed

Raising the standards!

As we begin Trimester III, we want to ensure that your child's progress is recognized and that our teamwork continues to encourage and nurture every student. Your parental input is very important and my faculty and I are counting on open, transparent communication in order to provide the best learning environment possible. If you have any concern, please contact the homeroom, subject teacher or staff and myself to assist.

Catholic Schools Week

Our e-mails are prioritized and answered as quickly as possible, but phone calls, Skype or face-to-face communication also get the attention they deserve.  Please know that your concern is important to us. Our Learning Community must foster trust, respect and understanding in order to serve every student and advance the institution. We pray together, learn, collaborate and grow in Christ's love as one family.

OLF School Governance - PoF
At OLF, members of the Learning Community have a voice in governing our school. Whether fundraising, new initiative, budget or policy, input is sought by the principal or brought to the school administration by student government, the Consultative Board, Parents of Fatima and faculty or staff. This is essential for open communication and transparency, as it allows the decision-making process to focus on our students.

Soon, we will be asking for nominations for to fill vacancies on the PoF Board 2013-14. For more information about PoF expectations and responsibilities, please contact our current PoF President, Denise Schnarr.
