Religious Education Congress
| |
Dear Parents and OLF Families,
The Religious Education Congress offers our teachers the opportunity for spiritual renewal and re-certification in Religion. Each year, the Anaheim Convention Center welcomes thousands of catechists, school teachers and religious staff from around the nation and the world for the Religious Education Congress. This year, participants came from as far as Australia, Kenya and Latin America.
The largest gathering of Catholics in the US, the Religious Education Congress is an experience that includes keynote speakers, workshops, prayer and faith formation.
Bishop Vann welcomed the participants to Orange County, while Archbishop Gomez led the event hosted by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
This year Religious Education Congress was different! Everyone was talking about the future of our church, the historical events surrounding Pope Benedict, and the upcoming enclave. A sense of "change and unknown" rose with the sacred incense to the top of every discussion. Our teachers attended workshops, went to Mass, sang or clapped, meditated or participated in the Taize prayers late into the night.
The exhibit halls offered a variety of novelties, including more and more digital resources to teach religion. Of particular interest was a children's bible for young students, that had just been published. OLF Parish School will introduce this for MAP - 3rd Grade as an additional teacher resource.
While at the Congress, one always sees familiar faces, including former Vice Principal Sue Simmons, Religious Sisters from other schools and students representing LMU's School of Theology and Education.
Blessings,
Beate Nguyen, M.A. Ed
Principal

4th Graders at the Honda Center
| |
Mrs. McDermott's class took a field trip and experienced a great day at the Anaheim Honda Center. The "Ducks" were hosting their annual science events, where ducks and pucks fly, and students learn about science.
This year the theme was kinetic energy! Many games and demonstrations allowed our students to get excited about the physical sciences. The 4th Grade also learned about nutrition and noise energy from 10,000 plus other students. The day was perfect!
