Cooperation and Understanding
(A Google Photo) | For the past few days, the media in both visual and audio modes, have bombarded the whole nation and echoed around the world about this demoralizing "shutdown" of this government. A mere disagreement of both major political parties on funding an alleged expensive and unproven health care law has resulted in this unconscionable action. As a consequence, most agencies are closed although by law, certain agencies are allowed to operate with unsalaried employees.
Families and other employees suffering financially from lost salaries and other benefits essential for daily living. Everyone including farmers also can't apply for new loans or receive some government checks. Is this what we call "democracy in action" or a financial standoff or showoff between two unrelenting parties that need to put their emotions in the closet and use their brains together instead, to resolve the issue or issues involved.? They should try to be good shepherds, try to be true to their calling and try to handle their disputes with wisdom.
What might this "shutdown" mean for you, your family and for the public?. Personally, it is sapping my confidence in the way this present government officials are running the show. I hope this showdown will end sooner to bring back harmony and peace in this already chaotic world.
Oh, this issue of lack of cooperation and understanding, can have a ripple effect in our community "government" which we call FECGP if we continue to identify with our personal grudges, egotistic attitudes, etc. and not for the common good of our community.
Fortunately, FECGP is flourishing and shining brightly today. Cooperation among member organizations are at their highest level in years. I commend President Hermie Aczon and all the officers who are running our Council for their unending energy in establishing a well-managed organizational entity.
Hopefully, no" shutdowns" will occur in our community in the days to come.
'They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither
liberty nor safety"....Benjamin Franklin

Pinoy performers from Smokey Mountain robbed in US
REDWOOD CITY, California - A group of young Filipino performers from the Smokey Mountain in the Philippines was robbed of their belongings while in the United States for a series of shows.
Aluna Villacorta, one of the dancers of the group called "Mga Anak ni Inang Bayan" of Children of Mother Earth, said they are dismayed, but they leave it all up to God.
"Of course we are all sad but what we can do for them is to pray and continue our goal," Villacorta said.
The incident happened while they were taking a break from rehearsals. The group was being treated to a shopping spree at one of the discount stores in Daly City by Filipino community leaders when someone broke into their van, took away what little money they have, as well as the cellphones, laptops and iPads they borrowed from friends for the trip.
Even their passports were taken. The group has since reported this to the police.

More Japanese firms seen moving from China to PH
MANILA, Philippines - More Japanese companies are expected to move their manufacturing operations from China and Vietnam to the Philippines, according to a property consultant.
CBRE Philippines chairman Rick Santos said there's a resurgence of the industrial sector in the Philippines, with more manufacturing companies coming in.
"We've seen a lot of Japanese companies coming back in. I think Japanese companies are not happy with the way they've been treated in China, I think the Japanese also had some challenges with China like sovereignty issues, with regards to taking away some islands, similar to our own situation with Scarborough Shoal and Mischief Reef.
Japanese companies already in the country are also expanding operations, he added.
Foreign investors are now more bullish about the Philippines, which is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia.

The season has dramatically changed and we are not far from Thanksgiving and I am sure that many of us have personal and family plans. Busy as we all are, I am amazed at how we can integrate our association's activities into our personal life that if we allow ourselves to pause and look back; we can only thank ourselves for all those times we devote to the life of our community. So we can give a little tap on our shoulders to thank ourselves and our dear God for those times. We are Pinoys and we are tenacious, hardworking and pliant, as Pinoy Pulitzer Prize Author, I.V. Mallari said in his book "Pliant Like a Bamboo". This month is also the celebration of Filipino-American History Month.
The AARP of Pennsylvania held its Harvest Reception at the historic Union League in downtown Philadelphia. FECGP is an active partner with AARP-PA in community-building and I would like to thank the leadership of AARP-PA and Grace Rustia, Associate State Director for all her assistance. Its was indeed a wonderful event that created awareness that a lot of seniors in our State really need help in their fight against hunger. The Filipino American National Historical Society Philadelphia Chapter (FAHNS-PA) held their annual event to commemorate Filipino American History Month at the famous Joy Tsin Lau Resto at Philly's Chinatown. Thanks to all who attended and for the many achievements of FAHNS-PA. Are you an avid gold fan? Plan to attend the UPMASA Golf Tournament, October 26 at the Rumblewood Golf Course, NJ. Also don't forget this November the Philippine Medical Society of Greater Philadelphia will have their annual charity ball. PMSGP President March Maquilan and Dr. Lita Manguba are really working hard to promote this event and also seeking your support especially on their pet projects scheduled for 2014. Have a wonderful weekend and a productive week ahead of you and enjoy the season. Maraming Salamat sa inyong lahat!
