News from Mrs. Main in the Library
The past few weeks have been hopping in the library!
On Wednesday, March 2, we kicked off our "Hit the books" reading incentive sponsored by the Lynchburg Hillcats. The team's mascot "Southpaw" visited and other members of the Hillcats' promotion team read a baseball story to students in Pre-K through 3rd grade! Students in Pre-K through 6th grade are participating in the incentive and each class has a reading goal to achieve in order to win 2 baseball tickets and a few other rewards! Contact Mrs. Main if you have any questions or have misplaced the reading log sent home.

On Wednesday, March 9, we hosted our alumni author and illustrator for a reading of their recently published book "The day the calf ate the chocolate cake". Rachel Campbell Deddens (HC Class of 1975) and Olivia Cesafsky (HC Class of 2013) came to meet the students in grades 2-5 and read the book to them. It was a great opportunity for the students to hear about the writing process and enjoy the story and illustrations while meeting a couple of Holy Cross alumni! Books are available for purchasing and signing by the author and illustrator. Contact me if you are interested.

We are excited to share that Mrs. Evans' first grade class has begun participation in the Accelerated Reader ongoing incentive program where students read a book, and then take a short comprehension quiz on that book. (We have even started a few Kindergarten students who are reading!) Stay tuned for more about next year's Accelerated Reader program changes and how this year's students will spend
their earned points!
