THANKSGIVING
I love Thanksgiving!  The first place I go to in my mind when I hear the word Thanksgiving is the dinner table - turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, pumpkin pie, and the T.V. ... the Macy's Day parade, football games, and long naps-ahh, what a wonderful day of gathering together and stuffing ourselves! I am thankful for that day!

According to the Bible, thanksgiving - or giving thanks - is actually the way to the Father. "Enter His gates with thanksgiving in our hearts, enter His courts with praise." Psalm 100:4.   We enter the gate by giving thanks and being grateful to the King of Kings for who He is and what He has done for us. Thanksgiving then leads to praise.  Praise leads to the inner court of the Lord.

So, how can we instill a grateful heart to the students in our school? Let's start by verbally acknowledging God's goodness throughout our day. A lifestyle of thanksgiving is so powerful! Our western mindsets of instant gratification compete with a heart of gratitude, and so often we, even as adults, need to take time to appreciate the simplest pleasures of life. We are so used to getting what we want without taking the time to ponder where it comes from or who supplied the gift.

This past month has taught me that we absolutely need people to come alongside us hold up our arms just like Aaron and Hur, but what about just entering His presence? I am learning that in His presence is fullness of joy! "You make known to me the path of life, in your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore" Psalm 16:11.   There is a clear path to His presence-through the gate with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise!

Let's all make a conscious effort to walk this life with a grateful heart and share the Goodness of God wherever we go and with whomever we are around. It brings His Glory.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING HOLY CROSS FAMILY!  I AM SO THANKFUL FOR ALL OF YOU...
In His Service,
Mary L. Sherry

First Lego League Wins Again!
The Gaelgos received 1st place in the Division II robot design. They were also invited to the state competition at James Madison University on December 5th and 6th. The Gaelgos have been invited to state for 3 of the last 4 years.

Holy Cross Regional School participated for the 9th year in a row at the Lynchburg, VA First Lego League Tournament (FLL, www.firstlegoleague.org) on Saturday, November 14th, at Sandusky Middle School. Twenty-eight teams of 2-10 students split between Division 1 and Division 2 competed in several categories including robot performance, robot design, a project, and core values. In Division 2 (16 teams) where at least one student was 12 years old on 1/1/2015, the Gaelgos (Gaels + LEGOs courtesy of Spencer Knight), won 1st place in robot design and was one of three Division 2 teams invited to participate at the state tournament on December 5-6 at James Madison University.

The 2015 team consists of Adam Bryant, Hyden Draughon, Austin Luther, Lucio Persad, Jonathan Posey, Irvin Putney, PT Rowland, William Wallis, and Justin Wingfield. Karl Rony is the head coach, David Dumonsau is the robot mission coach, and Neghie Draughon is the project coach.

Although FLL has been around for many years, Holy Cross hosted the first Lynchburg tournament in 2007. Very quickly, it outgrew HC and moved to Timberlake Christian School. Two years ago, it moved again to Sandusky Middle School. The Lynchburg FLL Tournament is consistently the biggest tournament in Virginia. In the nine years in Lynchburg, Holy Cross has been invited to state 5 or 6 times. This is the third time in the last 4 years.

The Gaelgos continue to show what it means to be part of the oldest school in Lynchburg rich in tradition. We proudly wear the green polo shirt with the school name and three crosses. We consistently perform well at the tournaments. People know when the Gaelgos enter the gym!

Thanks to Karl Rony and all the parents who volunteer their time and make our First Lego League possible!
