A note from our Head of School, Mrs. Mary Sherry:
Dear Holy Cross parents and students,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! Who could have imagined that we would be here at this time and place, poised to launch Holy Cross's 137th school year!! I find it absolutely amazing, and I am excited, grateful, and humble to be a part of it all. As I make this transition to Holy Cross, I am aware of the anticipation and eagerness that accompanies new leadership in any organization. I know that change can provoke both excitement and anxiety. It is my goal to spend my first several months learning about our school and all of its stakeholders. I eagerly anticipate getting to know the Holy Cross community, and learning about your hopes and dreams for our school. What is important to you about Holy Cross School? What do you want to learn more about? What are we proud of? What do we want to work on? I believe that genuine collaboration fosters ownership of a rich school culture. Supporting our kids to do well at school, and in their lives, is the center of our work. I am honored to have been selected to serve this community, and will work hard to gain your trust and respect as the Head of School for Holy Cross.
In recent weeks, my mind's eye has often drifted into the past and to the people who've filled
these one hundred and thirty six years at Holy Cross. As I have moved into my office this summer, I had many an opportunity to look though old photos and yearbooks. I wonder about those who've moved on and away. Are they living for Jesus? Did we equip them well in order to impact their world for Christ? I am reminded that we present-day people must remain faithful to the calling God has placed on Holy Cross and the legacy those folks from the past have left us.How should we approach the 2015-2016 school year? I believe that we must re-commit ourselves to the original vision that God gave the Holy Cross congregation, "..."Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these" (NIV Mark 10:14). We must also remain faithful to our core values: service to Jesus Christ, scholarship, Christian character, and Christian sportsmanship.
Our teachers and staff have been preparing for the new school year. I know they join with me in saying that we're so glad to have you with us as we celebrate what God has done at Holy Cross Catholic School over the past century and as we move forward with eager anticipation into the future. Indeed, "Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you;
your name and renown are the desire of our hearts." (NIV, Isaiah 26:8)
Please feel free to stop in, and introduce yourself.
In His Service,
Mary L. Sherry
Head of School

There is a dress code change for all elementary students. All elementary students will wear tennis shoes DAILY. Morning jogs, after lunch recesses, and other opportunities to be in the gym on rainy days caused this change in dress code. Tennis shoes should be a solid color as much as possible. Light-up shoes are not allowed and glitter is discouraged. Socks should be solid colors- preferably white, navy, or black. This change is for the safety of our active students. Thank you for your adherence to this dress code change.

Key Club News: ---Helpers are needed to make sandwiches and bag cereal on Thursday, 8/20. We will meet around 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parents, teachers, and students are encouraged to help! If you are a rising 5th-12th grade student, then we can use your assistance! Start earning your service hours for the next school year! [Please continue to send in loaves of 100% wheat bread and boxes/bags of healthy cereal.] Let me know if you plan to join us or bring supplies, so I can plan accordingly. ---If any current or future Key Club members have a pool AND would like to sponsor a beginning of the year Key Club pool party, then let me know. I think it would be a wonderful way to kick off our new year of Key Club member unity. Most likely a Saturday during the first two weeks of school would work best. Another option would be to hold a picnic and game day at Holliday Lake State Park. I will need some help planning this outing. ---Attention all rising 9th through 12th grade students! We will hold our first Key Club meeting, for new and returning members, during lunch on Thursday, 8/27, in room 104. Pack your lunch that day and bring a friend to see what Key Club is all about. ---Our first scheduled day to serve, at the Daily Bread for this academic year, is Sunday, 9/6. If you are available from 9:00 a.m. until about 1:00 p.m., then let me know. Middle school students may help, but a parent MUST volunteer with them. We need about 5 or 6 volunteers! Parents, students, friends, and family members are ALL encouraged to sign up to assist. You do NOT need to be a member of Key Club! Pam St. Angelo pstangelo@hcfaculty.com
