Studio Art Students Create Piano for  "Keys to the Hill City"
Our "Keys to the Hill City" piano pictured above is in place at its new home in front of Kegney Brothers in downtown Lynchburg!  Unveiled Friday, May 1, it will soon be livening up the sights and sounds of Main Street. Thanks again to Mrs. Pociluyko and her Studio Arts students for their work on this project!  Music is an international language, which inspired our piano's artwork.  The flags represent the different countries of students attending our school over the years and focuses on the multicultural elements of our school. Thank you to the following donors to this project:  Rachel Shenigo, Lowe's, Benjamin Moore, Holy Cross Regional Catholic School and Debbie Pociluyko!

Middle School News
The Middle School Etiquette Reception was a great success.  Students showed off their knowledge of their chosen countries as part of a project in Mr. Roach's class.  Thank you to Rachel Shenigo, Jamie David, and Mr. and Mrs. Kimball Payne for being our "dignitaries" of the evening.  Special thanks to Magnolia Foods and the Jones family, Mr. Eder, and Mrs. Fallon for supplying the students and guests with scrumptious hors d'oeuvres and desserts.  Thank you to the parents who helped decorate for the event, Lynchburg College for letting us borrow their array of international flags, and high school students who served.  The recipients of the Middle School Best Manners awards for this year went to Ashley Laneve and Jason Rony. Congratulations!

NHS and NJHS News

The annual induction ceremony for the National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society will be held on May 26th at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria.

To be eligible for NJHS membership consideration students must have a cumulative grade point average of 93 percent in the following subjects: Religion, English, Literature, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language.  Additionally, candidates must meet high standards of leadership, service, citizenship, and character.  Leadership is based on teacher recommendations and the student's participation in two community or school activities, or election to an office.  To meet the service requirement, students must have been active in two or more service projects in the school or community.  Citizenship is measured by the student's participation in civic-related organizations and/or activities.  Character is measured in terms of integrity, behavior, ethics, and cooperation with both students and faculty.

Currently, 5 students from the Classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020 are being considered for membership by a Faculty Council consisting of five faculty members. Congratulations to all candidates for their scholastic achievements.

Rice Bowls:
Our middle and high school students collected $762 for the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl initiative!!!  Our 8th and 6th grade students enjoyed an ice cream treat for raising the most money, $240.46 and $191.82 respectively.  You have no idea how many lives this money will save and change because of our students' generosity.  Way to go guys!!  We might have to increase our goal next year...

Students in grades 1-5 will be able to spend their points earned. We have several "white elephant" items but could use a few nicer prizes such as unused toys or books, $5.00 gift cards to places such as Little Dickens, Target, Dairy Queen, etc. and anything else that students age 6-12 would like!  If you think you can help us out, contact me at hmain@hcfaculty.com   Thanks so much! Keep in mind that the current A.R. list is on Renweb under "resource documents". There are printed copies available in the library. I'm so proud of the students' enthusiasm for the A.R. program! Thanks for your encouragement at home!
