Catholic Schools Week
January 26-January 30! 
Celebrate our great school all week!  
 


1/25 Sunday:  Students should wear their uniforms to church services on Sunday to earn a free dress day for Monday, February 2.

1/26 Monday:  Student Appreciation Day 
students will receive a cool treat at lunch and no homework.

1/27 Tuesday:  Scholars Day -- our MS students will hold the Scrips Spelling Bee at 8:30 am and all students will receive a small scholars gift

1/28 Wednesday:
Teacher/Staff/Clergy Appreciation Day -- the PTO will provide lunch for our faculty, staff and clergy.  Please feel free to send in a note of appreciation to your student's teacher(s).  Op
en House at 10 and 5 -- tell your friends to visit for a tour of  HCRS.

null  1/29 Thursday:  Prayer Partner Day -- our students will meet with prayer partners for a service craft experience.

1/30 Friday:  Green and White Day -- students should show school spirit by wearing green and white to school; pep rally in the afternoon.

ATTENTION: Parents of PreKindergarten and Kindergarten students for the 2015-2016 School Year!

We need to determine class numbers and begin assessments of incoming PreK and Kindergarten students. If you have a child who will be registering for PreK or Kindergarten at Holy Cross for the 2015-2016 school year, please fill out the mailed form and return it to school. Current students and siblings of current students are given priority in admissions, but we cannot guarantee openings for your child if we do not receive this form by Friday, January 30, 2015.

Jr. LEGO League Starting Soon! 

Jr. LEGO League, a fun and educational program which teaches problem solving and critical thinking skills, will start soon for six to ten year olds at Holy Cross School.  If your child is interested, please notify Cat Mosley at cmosley@hcfaculty.com by Friday, January 30.  We anticipate a weekly "practice" through April.  There may be a small charge this year as we anticipate multiple teams.  However, if you have an idea for potential sponsors, please let Cat Mosley know!

  

Asbestos Report: A recent inspection in Nov. shows we have no concerns regarding asbestos in the building. We will continue to hold six month inspections and report our status. Reports are on file in my office for review.

Spelling Bee

On January, 27th Holy Cross will have its annual 5-8th grade Spelling Bee at 8:30 a.m. 

 The following students will participate in the Bee:

5th Grade:

Key Club News:

  • We need help making sandwiches after school on Wednesday, January 28th. Any students from grades 5th through 12th may help!
  • Please send in the following supplies:
    • loaves of 100% whole wheat bread
    • peanut butter
    • boxes/bags of healthy cereal
    • boxes of zipper-style sandwich bags
    • or monetary donations to help defray the cost of supplies
  • Servers are needed at the Lynchburg Daily Bread on Sunday, February 1st from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Middle school students may help, but a parent MUST volunteer with them. [Please do not park in the Holy Cross Church parking lot, but use the parking garage instead.]

READING INCENTIVE NEWS FROM MRS. MAIN

'LOVE TO READ'/ COUNTDOWN TO DR. SEUSS'S BIRTHDAY

Elementary students will participate in a reading incentive for the month of February that will culminate with a celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2nd. Stay tuned for details to come home next week!

 

ACCELERATED READER:

Students in grade 1 have begun participation in the Accelerated Reader program and are doing an awesome job! Just a reminder: The complete Accelerated Reader list is now on Renweb . (Click on Resource Documents, then Accelerated Reader) If you would like a hard copy of the list, see Mrs.Main and she will give you one!
