Parent-Teacher Conferences November 3
Dear Parents,

MS and HS Parent-Teacher Conferences will be scheduled for Monday, November 3 from 8 to 11 and 1 to 3.  A conference block is 15 minutes.  These conferences are a great time to meet with teachers if you have concerns regarding your child's progress.  Although not mandatory, we as that you communicate with any teacher in whose class your child is having difficulty.  If your child is finding success in classes, then we understand you might not need to hold a formal conference on Monday, November 3.

Below you will find a form to print and send to school with your child regarding teacher conferences scheduled for Monday, November 3Please complete the form and return it to the front office by Tuesday, October 28.  The faculty will contact parents to confirm time of conference once you share your preferences.

Thank you,
Patti Culbreth

Inclement Weather Alert
With a nip in the air, we are reminded that winter is just around the corner. When inclement weather strikes we utilize our RenWeb Parent Alert feature. This feature will call you and let you know of school delays, closings and sporting event changes. However, this feature is only as accurate as the information we have. Please take this time and review your Parent Portal information, make any necessary changes or let Fran Harvey know if you need assistance.

And as a REMINDER: When the school has called you, please do not call the office -  listen to your voice mail. In the event of an actual emergency we would need the phone lines to be clear.

Thank you.

Key Club News:

  • We will be making sandwiches after school on Tuesday, October 28th.  One of our moms has generously offered to run to SAMS to gather whatever supplies we need each month, so it would be quite helpful if we could collect financial donations [SAMs gift cards are also welcome] to help defray the cost of the bread, gloves, jam, peanut butter, and cereal!   This should simplify things quite a bit, but if you still prefer to send in the supplies-that is fine, too.

  • Well, it has begun to cool off around our area, so we  are now collecting gently used outerwear for those who visit the Daily Bread. Please bring in any of the following items: warm blankets, coats, gloves, mittens, scarves, sleeping bags, sweaters, coats, etc.

  • The local animal shelters are in need of gently used towels and blankets for their homeless pets. If anyone wants to send these in, we will deliver them to the various shelters in our area on Thursday, October 30th

---Please consider doing what you can.  The Key Club really could not accomplish anything without the assistance of the entire Holy Cross School Community. Thanks so much for your continued generosity and support of our mission to serve the greater Lynchburg area!!!

Tis the season for outerwear.  Please label all clothing so that lost mittens and jackets can be returned to the owner.  Students may wear Holy Cross outerwear in the building.  Non HC jackets will need to be taken off when students report to their classrooms.

The dress code for shorts is 3 inches above the knee.  Please follow this code on out-of-uniform days.

Mrs. Jones is Region 2000 Tech Educator of the Year

Congratulations to our own Carolyn Jones who won the Region 2000 TechEDGE "Technology Educator of the Year" award this week!

Mrs. Jones has a M.Ed. from Lynchburg College and has been teaching at Holy Cross since 1996. She is in charge of technology at the school and also teaches computer science to elementary students in PreK through 12th grade. Her tireless efforts includes creating a multi-disciplinary approach to her classes. Fourth grade social studies students may make brochures on the different regions of Virginia, fifth grade religion students may make Easter artwork with words that symbolize the season, and all elementary students may be participating in learning an "hour of code."

Mrs. Jones's efforts have successfully led Holy Cross School's recent technological advancements including the acquisition of Nooks in the fourth grade classroom, Chrome Books in fifth grade, Jr FIRST LEGO and FIRST LEGO teams, and a software coding camp this summer. She is also in charge of the school's digital newsletter and spearheaded a computer upgrade this summer.

Way to go, Mrs. Jones!
