Craft Club in Need of Hymnals

If you have any church hymnals(any denomination), please consider donating them to the MS/HS Craft Club.   We will be making Hymnal Angels the end of Oct and the end of Nov.  Please give them to Ms Lyng or Ms Muller     Thanks!

Second grade took its first field trip to Lynchburg Grows to learn about how vegetables grow year round in greenhouses and how to care for them.  They learned that the public can purchase fresh vegetables and flowers from Lynchburg Grows during the work week.

A few days later, second grade travelled to Layman Family Farm in Blue Ridge, Virginia to learn about pumpkins and to have some fall fun.

Click on this picture to see them all!

SCHOOL ZONE LIGHTS: Thank you to our parents who alerted us the the fact that our school zone lights on Langhorne road are not flashing to warn drivers.  We have alerted the City of Lynchburg to this concern as they are the party responsible for the signs/lights.  We are told that it could take up to a month to fix the problem.  In the meantime, we can expect increased police patrol of the area, so be sure you are following the speed limit of 25 in a school zone.

2014 Spirit Week!

Holy Cross Gaels Spirit Week is October 6-10!  Students and teachers may celebrate Spirit Week with the following dress-up days:

                       MS/HS                                    Elementary
Monday          Pajama Day                               Pajama Day

Tuesday          Dress Like a Teacher Day         Patriotic Day

Wednesday     Decades Day                             Western Day

Thursday        Wacky Dress Day           Favorite Color Day

Friday             Green & White Day for everyone

Students in grades 9-12 will arrange, with HR teachers and Study Hall teachers, times to decorate banners.  Students will get teacher permission to use supplies.  All banner designs are to be approved in advance by Mr. Mitchell.  Banners should be completed by Wednesday, October 8, so Mr. Farringer will have time to hang them.  Classes needing supervision in the Cafeteria may call on Mr. Washington.

The Holy Cross Regional Catholic School Homecoming games will be held on Friday, October 10.  On that day we will have the Homecoming Pep Rally from 2:17 to 3:10 and operate on an Afternoon Assembly Schedule.  We will 1) announce teams; 2) announce Homecoming Court (selected in advance by student vote); 3) have two simple pep rally events - Relay Race with Prayer Partners; Students v Teachers in Volleyball.  See outline below.

The Homecoming Dance (grades 9-12) is Saturday, October 11, 8:00 to 11:30 pm.  This year's theme is "Masquerade."  Theme colors are silver and gold.  Permission forms (including dance guidelines) will be distributed to Homeroom teachers early next week.  Cost per person is $10 (due with permission slip).  Each student may bring three (3) guests.

The SAC is looking for parents and students to plan/help decorate on Saturday, October 11, at 10 am in the school cafeteria.  Olivia Duffy and Nicole Leal will provide dance refreshments.  By Thursday, September 2, SAC reps will identify one or two students from each grade to stay and help clean up after the dance, 11:30-12 midnight.

We are still looking for a DJ for the dance.  Glenn Trent will plan a play list alternative in the event that a DJ cannot be found.

Parents able to chaperone are asked to contact Mr. Washington at dwashington@hcfaculty.com.

Please direct any questions to Mr. Washington.
