FIFTIES FUN DAY- Our summer reading celebration "Fifties Fun Day" is almost here! Next Friday, September 5th we will celebrate that 100% of our elementary students completed the summer reading
goal! We are still in need of a few more volunteers to help us out in the morning from about 9:00-11:00. If you can help, please contact Mrs. Main (asap) main_h@hcrs-va.org 237-2420 (home) Thanks to all who have agreed to help and have donated items! J
FREE DRESS DAY- Elementary students have been granted a "Free dress day" for our "Fifties Fun Day". A note went home in Friday's folder with some suggestions for "Fifties" dress. Keep it simple and don't feel the need to purchase anything.
Join your HC friends at Sweet Frog on Wards Road this Wednesday from 4 - 9. Make sure you tell them you are from HC and have a sweet treat that sends money back to our school!
Save the Date!
The first meeting of the PTO will be held in the Holy Cross Cafeteria on Tuesday, September 9th at 7 pm! We will be kicking off another great year at Holy Cross, hoping for great success as well! We need you to help us accomplish this goal by coming to our meetings and giving us your input as to how we can, as the Parent/Teacher Organization, make Holy Cross even better for our children and the staff! Just for coming to each of our meetings, you will be entered each time in our raffle for a $100 tuition rebate at the end of the school year! Don't have a babysitter to watch your kids? No problem! We will provide Daycare during our meetings to help you out! Mark the date on your calendar, Tuesday, September 9th at 7 pm. We will be discussing our "Breakfast with Santa" fundraiser as well as many others. We have some new ideas, and we expect that you do too, and we want to hear from you! We will also need to pick a meeting date and time that most folks can live with, so jot down a few days and times that will work for you and your busy schedule. Want to "spice up" the meetings? Give us some suggestions! Dinners? Dances? We want to make it FUN to be a part of the Holy Cross PTO!! Remember, it can't be "FUN" without "U"!!

Host Families Still Needed!
Holy Cross has the opportunity to welcome several new German students if we can find housing opportunities. If you or someone you know may be interested, please contact Cat Mosley at
cmosley@hcfaculty.com or 847-5436. This can be a wonderful cultural experience for families.
FIRST LEGO Team Forming
Holy Cross will again have a FIRST LEGO Team at our school, graciously coached by Karl Rony and Dave Dumonsau. The team is for 10-14 year olds, and last year's team went to the state tournament! Please contact Cat Mosley
cmosley@hcfaculty.com or 847-5436 if your child is interested.

Need service hours?
Attention middle and high school students: Holy Name of Mary parish is holding their annual parish feast day and picnic on Sunday, September 7. We could use a few extra hands for hosting games and assisting with set-up and clean-up. If you would like to earn extra service hours, please contact Jennifer Williams at jenw731@gmail.com or call 385-7224 for more information.
It's time to "jam" and "sauce" things up!
Elementary students will be canning peach jam and applesauce again with Mrs. Speicher, Delladera, and Schemmel, Wednesday September 3rd. However, we really need Mason jars, lids, and rings. Could you please bring any half-pint and pint jars you are currently not using and leave them in the "jar" box in the school lobby ASAP? Pectin can also be donated.
The peach jam and applesauce will later be sold at our Breakfast with Santa Bazaar in December. All proceeds will go to the school.
Thank you!
Forestry Camp
Hunter Raso, grade 8, attended a Forestry Camp this summer at Holiday Lake. He tells us, "I like the outdoors
and thought this camp would be a good way to see if I might want to be a forester one day." Hunter was nominated for the program by local forester, Mr. Billy Newman. Each morning, the campers spent time focusing on forestry and the afternoons were spent in exploratories such as how to fight a forest fire, how to make a fire with a bow, trapping techniques, and more. We are proud that Hunter challenged himself to explore his interest in forestry.
