ELEMENTARY SUMMER READING/"FIFTIES FUN DAY"
All elementary students must turn in their summer reading logs by next Wed. August 27th. We are hoping for 100% of our students to turn in their logs and receive an invitation to our "Fifties Fun Day" on Friday, September 5th. Help is needed during our celebration. If you can help at all between the hours of 9:00 and 11:00, please contact me as soon as possible. If you can't help at the event, consider contributing refreshments or prizes. Contact Mrs. Main: main_h@hcrs-va.org or 847-5436 x110. Thanks to all who signed up during our back-to-school night or have responded to my e-mails! We will have a great time going back into the 50's!!
LIBRARY BOOKS
Checkout of books in the library began Friday. Students were allowed to check out 1 book to begin with. As they demonstrate proper care and prompt return of books checked out, they will be allowed to get more. I encourage you to have a special place to keep your student's books. (Keeping books in backpacks is a good idea because it will ensure that the book is always at home or at school with the child) Check inside the book pocket for a date due receipt. Stay tuned for more policies/procedures to come home next week!

Virginia Governor's School
John Michael Maddox, 11th grade, made the most of his summer by attending the Virginia Governor's School program. The Virginia Governor's School is a multiple week, residential experience with a strong, intensive educational component. It provides high school juniors and seniors with a college-like experience of living in dorm rooms and attending classes with instruction methods similar those used at colleges and universities. John Michael chose a course of study that primarily focused around computer science, a major that he is hoping to enter. He enjoyed not only the time in the classroom, but also experiencing the social atmosphere of a college. Throughout the process he was supported by Mrs. Whalen and is very appreciative of her encouragement. Thank you for representing Holy Cross so well, John Michael!
Religious Formation Classes for Youth with Special Needs
The religious Formation Program is in the process of beginning a small faith sharing group for any youth ages 5 to 18 years old who has special needs. At STM, we currently do an inclusive program or parents do home schooling depending on the youth's preference. This year, the Religious Formation program would like to offer another option. If you are a family with youth with special needs, and would be interested in a small group faith sharing style, please contact Trish Pabis at 237-5911 x 211 or email at relformation@stmva.com. We are currently seeking interest levels to see if this is a program that would be beneficial to our families.
