Exams Ahead!
Spring Semester Exams for MS and HS students will be given on May 30, June 2, 3 and 4. A reminder to all about our policy regarding exam exemptions/grades/attendance:
Exams and Exemptions
All students in MS and HS take midterm and final exams at the specified time. All students in high school courses who maintain a 93% or better (not 92.5) average may be exempt from taking the final exam. Extra credit will not be given in any class in order to qualify for an exemption.
School attendance affects the privilege of exemptions. A total of eight (8) or more absences per class per semester, excused or not excused (including college visits), will result in the loss of the privilege of exam exemptions even though a student fulfills the academic exemption requirements. Students with extreme extenuating circumstances, such as a hospitalized illness or death in the family, may appeal to the administration for an exemption within five school days after the extenuating circumstances. Excessive tardies may also result in the loss of exam exemptions as determined by administration.
THERE WILL BE NO LITURGY ON THURSDAY, MAY 1 as Father Jim will be out of town. Our next all school liturgy will also celebrate our May Crowning at 8:15 on Thursday, May 15.
Attention Juniors and Seniors and their Parents: Save the Date: Thursday, May 22 at 6:30 pm
at the school -- an evening of fun and fellowship as our juniors make prophecies for the seniors and our seniors leave their friends great memories in their wills. A wonderful evening to share laughter and tears as we celebrate the final days of school. Juniors and Seniors will be asked to bring hors d'oeuvres to share.
Middle School Social
There will be a Bridging into MS Social on
Friday, May 9th from 7:00-10:00 for grades 5 - 8. Permission forms went home this week and are due on May 2nd with the fee of $7.00 to the front office. Guests are welcomed.
A Shout Out to Jason Rony!!
 | Jason and his proud dad, Karl |
On April 22nd, Jason Rony competed against ten companies of young entrepreneurs in the Lynchburg area. They presented their business plan to a group of investors in hopes of receiving startup money. In addition to receiving the money he asked for, he won the best company award and will travel to Boca Raton in southern Florida to compete in the Young Entrepreneur Academy (YEA!) semi-finals on May 15-16.
Check out the YEA! website at www.yeausa.org for more information about the program. The program will start up again in October for the 2014-2015 season.
We wish Jason well. His business is called Doceo Data, and you can view his web page using this QR code he created.

The "Kidsfirstortho.org" team will be traveling from Lynchburg to Mexico in May. For more information, visit www.kidsfirstortho.org or contact Girl Scout leader dianne delledera at 841-9502. Thirteenth Annual Appalachian Workweek
The thirteenth Annual Lynchburg Catholic Faith Community Appalachian Workweek, sponsored by St. Franci s of Assisi Catholic Church and Holy Cross Regional Catholic School, will take place the week of June 15 - 20, 2014. This is a wonderful opportunity for middle school students, high school students, and adults to respond to our call to service.
We will spend a week in Hurley, Virginia, located in the mountains of southwest Virginia. Hurley is a former coal mining community that has suffered economic loss
as a result of many mine closings. Unemployment is widespread and there is an increasing rate of disability among the former mine workers from mining related illnesses such as black lung and emphysema. Poverty is a way of life but the community's spirits remain high.
Many of the homes are in terrible condition as a result of the poverty, general neglect, and harsh winters. Some of the projects we may be involved in include roof repair and replacement, drywall installation, floor replacement, house painting, plumbing, window replacement, porch construction and repair, and access ramp construction. Participants will have the opportunity to learn home repair skills, problem solving and how to work as a team.
Each year, as we prepare to leave our new friends, there are smiles, laughter, hugs, and tears. However, we leave knowing we have made someone's life a bit better for our efforts and knowing that our faith has grown by sharing our lives with our brothers and sisters in Hurley.
Important
1. Age Requirement: In order to provide a safe and meaningful experience, a student must be a rising 9th grader to participate without a parent accompanying them. Rising 7th and 8th graders may participate but must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.
2. Parents/Adults Needed: We need adults to help supervise the teens. We also need volunteers to lead work teams in home repair projects. The number of students that may participate will depend on the number of team leaders we have.
