Dear HC Families,

And the angel answered ... Fear not; for I know you seek Jesus ... He is not here for He is Risen (Matthew 28:5-7).

Blessings to you and your families in this Easter Season!  We feel the Lord's gifts each day at Holy Cross School -- from spring sports (finally with no snow!) to final field trips to kite flying, ring ceremony, prom and
Shrek!  We have so much to celebrate with a school filled with talented children.  Thank you for sharing them with us!  May our spring be filled with renewal of spirit and energy!

God bless,
Patti Culbreth

Anybody interested in advertising their business can contact Monica at 251-8407. News from Mrs. Main

HILLCATS HIT THE BOOKS: Holy Cross School students are underway in the "Hit the books" reading incentive program sponsored by the Lynchburg Hillcats baseball team! Last week, some Hillcats representatives came to visit and kick off the program! Here is how it works:

  • Each time a student reads a book (or 50 pages for grades 3-5) the parent will initial a base on the special bookmark.
  • When all 4 bases are completed (a homerun) the parent signs the bookmark and the student turns it into Mrs. Main or classroom teacher.
  • Students will be given 2 tickets to the special "School night" at the Hillcats baseball game for May 23rd, complete with fireworks. Because the game is on the night of Mrs. Shenigo's play, students that can't attend will be given alternate prizes.
  • Contact Mrs. Main if you have any questions: hmain@hcfaculty.com

ACCELERATED READER: Students in grades 1-5 continue to participate in the Accelerated Reader               program where they read a book on the Holy Cross A.R. list, take a quiz on the computer, and      earn points to spend at our special "A.R. store". The next store will be in May. Stay tuned for a         date. The complete A.R. list is on Renweb under "resource documents" but hard copies are               available in the library as well!

INVENTORY: Help is needed for inventory in the elementary library during the last part of May. Please contact Mrs. Main if you can help. Hours are flexible! hmain@hcfaculty.com

COUPONS FOR WENDY'S AND DICK'S SPORTING GOODS

Each year a company called Huddle sends the school rolls of tickets to use for sporting events or other activities.  On the back of the tickets are coupons for Wendy's and Dick's Sporting Goods.  You probably saw these tickets if you came to volleyball or basketball games this year.  Since they send us such a large quantity, and we only use a small amount, we decided to share the coupons with our families instead of throwing them away.  We sent a set of coupons home on Friday in the Elementary green folders.  We will distribute coupons to the middle and high school students on the next club day.  If you would like some additional tickets, please contact Ann Hoffman.  Enjoy!!

VIDEO CONTEST

Our students are our best marketing tools.  In our efforts to continue to raise the visibility of Holy Cross School, we are launching a "Holy Cross Highlight" video contest.  Students and their families are encouraged to create one or more 30-60 second videos promoting the school and/or something special about it.  Be creative - the sky is the limit!  If you need inspiration, here are a few ideas:

  • Interview a student, teacher, parent, coach, priest, alumnus.  Ask them a question and have them phrase their response so that it is a statement.  For example, "Holy Cross is a special place...," "The teachers at Holy Cross are special because...," "I feel like I am getting a great education at Holy Cross because..." Spontaneous responses are best, but if you script your response, please don't read it (memorize).
  • Film one of our stellar teachers in action or a fellow student presenting in class.  You may want to introduce the clip as a reporter.
  • Catch a celebration or special moment - winning a game, getting a college acceptance letter, receiving a high mark on a test,... Use your imagination!

Deadline - videos are due by April 30, 2014.  Please submit to cmosley@hcfaculty.com with the videographer's name.

Prizes -

Elementary prize - $50 Gift certificate to Amazement Square

Middle/High School Prize - $50 gift certificate to Givens Books/Little Dickens

Selected videos will be set with an ending "board" that says our motto "What I am to be, I am now becoming...,"our logo and website.  While this promotion will be made easier with our Bring Your Own Device policy, the use of technical devices should not interfere with classroom time and teachers will use their discretion in ensuring that this doesn't happen.

Happy Filming!

Stuffed Animal Drive
During April, Holy Cross Girl Scout Troop #463  will be collecting new and gently loved small stuffed animals.  Please bring your donations to school and place in the boxes in the school lobby or elementary wing.  The animals will be sent to Mexico and given to children who are undergoing orthopedic surgery.  The "Kidsfirstortho.org" team will be traveling from Lynchburg to Mexico in May.  For more information, visit www.kidsfirstortho.org or contact Girl Scout leader dianne delledera at 841-9502.  Than you for your support.

Yearbooks are now on sale.  Please order your yearbook through our school office.   You may download the form here or find it on Renweb.
