VIDEO CONTEST
Our students are our best marketing tools. In our efforts to continue to raise the visibility of Holy Cross School, we are launching a "Holy Cross Highlight" video contest. Students and their families are encouraged to create one or more 30-60 second videos promoting the school and/or something special about it. Be creative - the sky is the limit! If you need inspiration, here are a few ideas:
- Interview a student, teacher, parent, coach, priest, alumnus. Ask them a question and have them phrase their response so that it is a statement. For example, "Holy Cross is a special place...," "The teachers at Holy Cross are special because...," "I feel like I am getting a great education at Holy Cross because..." Spontaneous responses are best, but if you script your response, please don't read it (memorize).
- Film one of our stellar teachers in action or a fellow student presenting in class. You may want to introduce the clip as a reporter.
- Catch a celebration or special moment - winning a game, getting a college acceptance letter, receiving a high mark on a test,... Use your imagination!
Deadline - videos are due by April 30, 2014. Please submit to [email protected] with the videographer's name.
Prizes -
Elementary prize - $50 Gift certificate to Amazement Square
Middle/High School Prize - $50 gift certificate to Givens Books/Little Dickens
Selected videos will be set with an ending "board" that says our motto "What I am to be, I am now becoming...,"our logo and website. While this promotion will be made easier with our Bring Your Own Device policy, the use of technical devices should not interfere with classroom time and teachers will use their discretion in ensuring that this doesn't happen.
Happy Filming!

Etiquette Dinner - "Best Manners Award" named after Saint Francis de Sales. Saint Francis de Sales was born in 1567 and was famous among his contemporaries for his holiness, which was also expressed through good manners. His biographies speak of Saint Francis as a perfect gentleman to everyone he met; whether they were noble, educated, or simple people. He was a man who always had a smile for the people he spoke with, who treated everyone with kindness. He himself summarized the importance of good manners in his own pastoral work, saying: "You attract more flies with a drop of honey than a barrel of vinegar." Nominees: 6th Grade: Rachel Williams and Andy Guglielmetti 7th Grade: Elizabeth Grace Harvey and Alan Leal 8th Grade: Molly Graham and Zach Mooney The Saint Francis de Sales Award was presented on March 8, 2014 to two young people who exemplify his characteristics. Elizabeth Grace Harvey Alan Leal Congratulations to both of them! We now have posted some pictures from our annual middle school Etiquette dinner. Here are some highlights: Our faculty and staff now have new email addresses. You can still use the "old" email addresses @hcrs-va.org or you may use the new ones, which are "1st initial last [email protected]" Example: Jane Smith would be [email protected]. You do not have to make any changes in your address book if you want to continue to use the old addresses. Key Club News:
---Hopefully you saw us on WSET News the other day for National PB&J Day!!! It was so much fun having the kids filmed, and I had my 10 seconds of fame when I was interviewed.
---We plan to make sandwiches again after school on Tuesday, April 8th, and we need bread! Please consider sending in a loaf or two of 100% wheat bread. If you would rather send in a donation of a gift card for either Kroger or Food Lion to help us buy bread, that would be wonderful, too!
---We are having a hard time getting volunteers to help make sandwiches the last week or two, since we have so many students in sports and the school play. If you can spare an hour on Tuesday to help, we would love to put you to work! Let me know if you can join us!
