A Day in My Life at Holy Cross by Patti Culbreth....
Our Patti Culbreth Does It All!!

How lucky am I!

As we complete our Catholic Schools Week, I feel compelled to share with the school community how very blessed I feel to serve as the Principal of Holy Cross School. Imagine one of my days:

  • I get to greet students by name as they enter the school each day - the youngest and oldest sometimes take some warm-up time to share a smile, but every child is respectful and cheerful about the day ahead.
  • Next I get to work with members of our leading classes (grade 12 for MS/HS and grade 5 for elementary) to share our Morning Prayer, pledge and announcements. What pride I have in these young people who daily model composure and confidence to the entire school.
  • I travel to classrooms to watch students engage in every subject! When I enter, students stand as a show of respect and eagerly share the lesson on which they are working. I love to see the PreK students in computer class; the second grade writing notes to shut-ins as a service opportunity; the fourth grade using their nooks to review math skills; the sixth grade challenging themselves with science; the ninth grade planning for a fieldtrip with Mr. Mitchell; the 11th grade carefully reviewing their PSAT results and beginning to make college lists; the senior class celebrating the continuing news of college acceptances - this year to VT Engineering, Fordham, George Mason and Randolph Macon-Ashland thus far...........

What a Great Catholic Schools Week!

This has been a wonderful week of fun and learning during Catholic Schools Week!  A rousing all-school liturgy with Father Jim Gallagher and guitarist Gerry Bianco kicked off five days (well four with one snow day) of celebrations.  Our scholars showed their knowledge during a 5th-8th grade spelling bee on Tuesday.  There was free ice cream graciously donated by Fresh Market, card-making with our prayer partners, Chick-fil-A Day, Green and White Day, a pep rally and more!  Holy Cross Regional Catholic School truly exemplifies this year's theme - "Catholic Schools - Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service."

REMINDER:  Students who wore their school uniforms to their church services last weekend to celebrate the start of National Catholic Schools Week have earned a FREE DRESS DAY on Monday, Feb. 3.

Time for Re-registration!null

It's that time of year again! You will find below and in Renweb all the materials to make your child's re-registration simple and easy.  In this packet, you will find updated information regarding re-registration, tuition, fees,  and financial aid.  Please make sure to return your form and payment to Director of Enrollment Catherine Mosley as soon as possible as we use our spring enrollment numbers to make decisions about programming and staffing.  Families who have previously registered through FACTS must complete their 2014-15 school year applications by March 1.  New families, self-employed families, and families with business income must complete their applications by June 1.

Key Club News:

Here is a message from the Lynchburg Daily Bread:

"We are eager for Spring! This bitter winter has been horribly tough on our guests. We are helping a guest who is looking for baby clothes for a baby boy due in late March, along with diapers, burp cloths and any other items you might have to donate. Blankets, gloves, and hats are always welcome for all ages. Also, the sandwiches mean a great deal to our guests, and they are thankful for them."

**I told them that I would pass this on to the Holy Cross School family to see what we could do. If you or anyone else that you know has any of these items that are gently used or new, I will make sure they are delivered---if you get them to me!

**We are still making our weekly peanut butter and jam sandwiches for the Lynchburg Daily Bread, so please keep us in mind if you are shopping and would like to pick up any of the following for our mission to feed the hungry: bread, creamy peanut butter, or jam [not jelly].

**We also continue to serve one Sunday a month at the Lynchburg Daily Bread! Our next day of service will be Sunday, March 2nd--from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm! All high school students are welcome to serve. Middle School students may serve, but a parent MUST volunteer with them. Please let me know if anyone in your family would like to volunteer.

We are reminded that we must recognize Jesus in all human beings, and it is up to us to be Christ to each other. Each person deserves to be treated with human dignity and respect, and we are called to serve one another through our time, talents, and treasure. Thanks so much for all that you do to help the needy, homeless, and hungry in our community.
