Canned Food Drive Ends Monday!

The Junior National Honor Society and the Elementary Student Government are sponsoring a "Canned Food Drive" that ends on Monday, December 9th.  The food will be donated to the food pantry at Holy Cross Church and will be distributed during this holiday season.  We ask that every student donates 2 or more non-perishable items.  Our goal is 400!  Thanks for your support!

Congratulations to Emmi Owens for being  honored as Holy Cross School's recipient of the DAR Good Citizen Award this year.  This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities.

The Night Shift Before Christmas

Our Christmas play is a week away! A few last minute reminders:

-The play is on Sunday, December 15th at 2:00.  ALL elementary students need to arrive between 1:30-1:45 and report to their classrooms.

-Unless your student has a speaking part that needs a costume, they should be wearing jeans (no holes please) and a solid green, red, or white shirt.

-PK and K will leave after they sing the first 2 songs to change into their costumes. They should still plan to arrive in jeans and a solid color shirt.

-If your student has a speaking part, please be sure that all lines are memorized ASAP!

Elementary Student Government would like to thank all of the Holy Cross Families who  participated in our November Shoe Drive.  We collected 206 pairs of shoes that will be donated to those less fortunate through Candlelight Ministries.  Candlelight Ministries also provides food boxes monthly to our local senior citizens.  Thanks again!

Barnes and Noble Fair-4 days left!

It was a busy weekend so if you missed going to Barnes and Noble, it's not too late to shop to benefit Holy Cross School. We have until this Wednesday Dec. 11th, to earn a percentage of each sale made by a Holy Cross School student, family member, friend, acquaintance. Be sure to either take the Holy Cross voucher (available at the end of this paragraph and in office), or tell the cashier you are with Holy Cross School. Remember, if you wish to shop at another location besides Lynchburg, or on line, simply present the Holy Cross bookfair ID # 11190329 at checkout. Purchases throughout the store will count towards our fair, including CDs, DVDs, and the café!  Download and print a voucher here:  Barnes and Noble

Many thanks to all of the students, families and teachers who came out Saturday to help us shine in our community with music and stories. A special thanks to Mrs. Barnes for leading our wonderful students in singing!

Christmas Wish List/Chrismon tree

Have you noticed the beautiful Chrismon tree in the lobby of Holy Cross? Thanks to Mrs. Pociluyko and her art students,we have this wonderful tree that is the host of our Christmas wish list program. Under the tree are small gift boxes that each have a title of a book attached. These are books that we would like to get for our library media centers, both elementary and middle/high school. Each year this is presented as an opportunity to donate a book to the library in honor of a teacher or other individual, or in memory of a loved one.  Simply pick a star/book title from a box under the tree, fill out the back, and return it to school with a check or cash for the amount on the book. Do not purchase the book. We will order it!

Through the years we have added many books to our collection and the best part is that this is a gift that keeps on giving for years! If you take a star/title, return by Mon. Dec. 16th. Thanks so much! Please contact Mrs. Main if you have any questions!  main_h@hcrs-va.org

Holy Cross Boosters and Basketball Players Celebrate Prayer Partners

During this basketball season, our school wants to recognize our prayer partners in a very special way.  Middle School (grades 6, 7, and 8) and their prayer partners (grades 1, 3, and 4 ) will be recognized during home games on December 13th.    Gael students are always free at home games, and on December 13th, parents of prayer partners will get in for ˝ price.  There will be special meal deals from the Gael's Grill that include hotdog or hamburger, chips, and a drink.  One lucky student's name will be drawn for each game to sit in a special seat behind the team bench.  So come on out on December 13th to support the Gaels and your prayer partners!

Mrs. P and her art students in grades PK-6 have made beautiful Chrismons and decorated our tree in the front lobby.  Below is a picture of the tree as well as an explanation of what Chrismons are and what each symbol means.  They are a beautiful addition to our school for the Christmas season, and we thank Mrs. P and her students for all of their hard work!
