Holy Cross Friends and Family,
You may have read in the news that St. Thomas More Church had large amount of collection money stolen from the church safe. We will have a "support our church" box at the cashier table at lunch next week to allow any student or teacher to donate to a blessing fund for STM. We will deliver our blessings to them the following week.
Please keep in mind these important dates/times:
May 31 at 1:40 pm - Baccalaureate Mass at school Service Awards to follow for MS/HS.
June 2 - You are cordially invited to a community picnic to celebrate the retirements of Mr. Bill Cloyd and Mrs. Sherry Schemmel on Sunday, June 2 from 2-5 pm on the front lawn of the school (if rain, we will move inside). The school will provide sandwiches and drinks, but we ask that you bring a side dish to share (salads, chips, fruit, desserts, etc.) Please bring lawn chairs and blankets for your comfort. Music will be provided by a DJ.
We look forward to honoring our great teachers at this event. We will organize a memory box for both Bill and Sherry. Please take time to write each a note of good wishes or reminisce over an anecdote. You can write your note beforehand or at the event. Bill and Sherry will enjoy reading the notes from their memory boxes during their retirements.
June 7: 8th Grade Graduation Mass at St. Thomas More at 7 pm. June 8: 12th Grade Graduation at St. Thomas More at 10 a.m.
Please join us for these wonderful culminating experiences!
Blessings to all,
Patti Culbreth

Congratulations to Laura Wingfield!
Laura Wingfield, daughter of George and Julia Wingfield, has been chosen to receive the American Electric Power Scholarship for the Appalachian Power region of Virginia. Criteria considerations include class rank, academic strength of courses, GPA, extracurricular activities, response to an essay question, and teacher recommendations. Laura will receive $7,000 over the course of her first three years of college. Congratulations to Laura!
Congratulations to Senior Elizabeth Main, daughter of Doug and Holly Main, who was presented with the Ronald B. Dolan/Bank of the James Citizenship Award on Wednesday, May 21st. This award is conferred upon a graduating student who is deemed by the faculty and administration of their Region 2000 high school to exhibit the qualities of citizenship: loyalty, integrity and a genuine concern for the well being of others.

Electronics Recycling Fundraiser
Clean out your old electronics and computer hardware now! Help our school raise money by bringing in your old computers, dvd players, keyboards, laptops, printers, cameras, cell phones, fax machines, modems, routers, etc. Electric cords and cables are particularly valuable for recycling due to their copper content, so please also send them in. We can NOT recycle big old CRT tube monitors or televisions, but you can take them to Goodwill and they will recycle them for you. Please bring in all equipment by the end of school.
3rd Grade Visits the Mayor's Office
Third graders learn about local history and local government in Social Studies. Each year we visit the mayor at City Hall to learn about the leadership of our city and how the council meetings lead to new laws or regulations here in Lynchburg. This year we followed our visit with a trip to the historic Depot Grille (owned by the parents of 3rd grader Allie Poole). Students really enjoyed this field trip and got a first hand look at local politics. Maybe there is a future council member in our class!
