Host Family Needed for 2013-14 School Year
We are looking forward to welcoming another international student to Holy Cross next year who will be traveling to Lynchburg from Thailand. She will be in the 11th grade and we are seeking a family for the entire school year. If you're interested in hosting this student, please contact Amy Lawson at lawson_a@hcrs-va.org
Thank You Holy Cross Community!
The NHS/NJHS Ghiradelli chocolate sales was a huge success! We raised $559.90 for Interfaith Outreach Association to help with their work in taking care of the most vulnerable citizens of Lynchburg. This represents $100 more than last year. THANKS!
Dear Adm. Team Member/Holy Cross Alumni/Parents of Alumni,
The 21st annual summer Golf tournament will take place on June 15, 2013, at London Downs Golf Club. Once again, it is the first Saturday following graduation and the 3rd Saturday of June. I am getting the information to golfers and sponsors now. If any of you would like to participate, please join us. Being a "good golfer" is not a prerequisite... if that be the case, most of us who do golf... would not! You might also wish to sponsor a hole.
The annual summer Alumni/Former Student Reunion is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2013, here at HolyCrossSchool. I have already met with a core group of alumni to help plan the event. We are working (now) on getting this information to as many of our alumni as possible. This is mostly an evening event, with food, beverage, live music and dancing and plenty of stories about old memories and happy times at Holy Cross. For those of you with alumni sons/daughters, please get the word out to them. You may even want to join them!
God bless,
John Jones
Food Drive NJHS is sponsoring a food drive May 6-10 for Holy Cross Church's Food Pantry. Students, faculty, and staff that bring in two or more nonperishable food items to their homeroom teacher will receive a Jeans Day on May 14th. Thank you for your support.
HS/MS Students Bring Snacks
The Juniors will not be selling snacks at snack time after May 10th. Please make sure that MS/HS students bring their own snacks for snack time from home starting May 13th.
Kindergarten Studies the Farm - Update from Mrs. Harcup
Mrs. Ferrell (Hayden's mom) brought "Shirley" in to visit our class since we are talking about farm animals. We got to pet her, learn about chickens in more detail, and even see the different kinds of eggs that chickens lay.
We also had Mr. and Mrs. Davis (Jenna's mom and dad) bring in some adorable little goats! Mac & Peanut are 2 month old twins. We learned about goats in more detail: how they like to play, eat grass (so they don't have to mow!) and what they eat. We even saw them nibble on some grass and drink out of a bottle! The kindergarten kids loved helping feed the kids (baby goats). We got to pet them and watch them explore our front lawn.
Last Friday, Kindergarten went to Terrapin View Farm in Big Island, VA. They saw various animals: baby chicks, goats, pigs, cows, calves, donkeys, mules, peacocks, and even a water buffalo! The children saw how the animals are taken care of on the farm, as well as, how the animals are needed and used by people.
Thank you Mrs. Ferrell, Mr. and Mrs. Davis, Farmer Fred & Mrs. Massie!!
