A Word from Patti CulbrethWith great joy, we welcome our new Pope, Francis I. We look forward to his leadership of our Catholic community and lean on his guidance as he moves our church forward. Pope Francis has served the Church with great humility and love. His actions teach all of us to remember the least of our brothers and to follow Jesus' teachings. We celebrate his new role as our Pontiff. May God bless Pope Francis and may God bless you.
ENHANCED SECURITY: A front entrance security system has been installed and will be activated beginning Monday, March 18, 2013. All exterior doors to the school will remain secured during the school day. The front door will be locked after morning drop-off and will remain locked until school dismissal time. To gain access to the building, visitors must enter through the far left front door, be recognized by school staff and be admitted electronically into the building. A doorbell has been added for your convenience to alert office staff of your visit, if necessary. We thank you in advance for your patience as we all become accustomed to this new safety feature. We know we all agree that our students' safety is of primary importance.
Parents of MS/HS Students,
We will celebrate our Young Authors with an awards ceremony directly after our liturgy on Tuesday, March 19 if you would like to attend. Liturgy begins at 10:15 in the gym, and we will begin our awards ceremony after we have dismissed our elementary students back to their classrooms after the liturgy. Please join us for liturgy and celebration of our Young Authors.
Volleyball News
Holy Cross Regional School needs a JV volleyball coach. Requirements: played organized club, high school or college volleyball; available August through November. Please call Holy Cross Regional School 847-5436 and ask for Tony Mitchell (AD).
Volleyball tryouts for 2013 will be held May 6, 7, and 8
from 3:30--5:30. Tryouts are for current 4th thru 11th grades. Parent meeting on Monday, May 6th at 3:30 in gym to discuss our volleyball program. Head Coach, Sam Barlotta.
Dear Parents, Don't forget, our 4th grade parent coffee is Thursday, March 21st from 7:45 - 8:30 a.m. Join Principal Patti Culbreth for coffee and conversation to discuss your child's dynamic 4th grade year. PTO Yard Sale Our yard sale was a success! We made $2400.00 profit !! Thanks to Steve Luther, he sold items on Craigslist before we had the sale so our pod was paid for before we started the sale. Thanks to all of the volunteers who worked countless hours (we had a great time but it was still a lot of hard work). Thanks to all the kids that came out to help. Please see Julia Wingfield for your service hours. A special thanks goes out to Julia Wingfield. She helps the PTO with every event. She secures the volunteers, never complains, and she works very hard. Thank you Julia! We really appreciate you! The DAV did not pick up everything like they should have. We appreciate everyone coming together at the last minute and pulling through. Thank you Wilson Park, Thomas Schubert, Daniel Sheedy, Dallas Mata and Noah Mata for making several trips to drop off items at Goodwill Saturday afternoon.
Save-the-Date: Grandparents' Day 2013!
Our annual Grandparents' Day celebration will be held on Friday, May 3rd from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Please make sure that you have added all grandparent information (names and addresses) into RenWeb as this is the list we'll use for our mailing.
Update on Summer Camps 2013!
We have 10 exciting camps being offered this summer including dance, basketball, volleyball, Spanish, science, and vacation Bible stories. Summer information will be available at the end of April.
Key Club Bake Sale
The Holy Cross Key Club is sponsoring a bake sale to raise funds for the March of Dimes on Thursday, March 21st during the elementary and middle/high school lunches. We will also have a container, next to the cash register, to collect spare change during all lunches for the month of March, beginning Monday-March 18th. If some of you gave up sweets for Lent, then please help us with a donation!! We have set a school-wide goal to raise $250. Please help us with this important fundraiser. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. The March of Dimes provides mothers, pregnant women and women of childbearing age with educational resources on baby health, pregnancy, and new motherhood, as well as supplying information and support to families affected by prematurity, birth defects, or other infant health problems.
It would be terrific to reach our goal, but it would be amazing to actually surpass $250!!! If you have questions or would like to make a donation, then please contact--Pam St. Angelo at st.angelo_p@hcrs-va.org
Exchange Student Families Needed
Dear families,
We recently learned that we will be welcoming an Italian exchange student, Carla, for next school year who will be in the junior or senior class. We also have a student from Taiwan who is also interested in joining us. In order for these young people to enroll, we need to find host families.
If you are interested in hosting a student, please let me know as soon as possible so we can begin expediting the process. Hosting a student is a wonderful experience - for you, your family, and the student. Please let me know how I can assist with your questions.
Many thanks for your consideration,
Amy Lawson
Director of Enrollment
