We hope that you have all had the opportunity to download the 2013-2014 re-registration information. As you know, families who submit their registration fee by February 28th receive the discounted rate of $250. On March 1, the fee goes up to $300 and on April 1st, the fee goes up to $350. Save some money and return your forms early!

In addition, while we are hopeful that all of our students plan to return for next school year, if your plans have your child/children attending another school next year, you will still need to complete the re-registration form and indicate your intentions of not returning. You will also have an opportunity to schedule an exit interview with a member of the school's administration at this time.

Spring Spirit Wear Pre-Order Sale! February 25th through March 8th. Our spring spirit wear sale is here and we have many great items to choose from. Silk screened items include Holy cinch packs, short sleeved t-shirts, men's open bottom sweatpants and women's yoga pants.Embroidered items include hats, visors, athletic duffel bags and adult polo shirts (men and women's cut). Items will be on display in the lobby Monday afternoon. Stop by, stock up and support the Gaels!

The Holy Cross PTO will be holding its annual yard sale on March 9th from 7am to 1 pm. Please clean out your closets and bring your items to the school. The Pod in the front of the school will be open during school hours. Please put your items in the back of the pod. If you need to have the pod open on Saturday please contact Steve Luther to schedule a time.

PTO NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FOR YARD SALE

Annual Yard Sale- March 9th- Volunteers needed Friday, March 8, from 2:30 until 7:00 PM to set-up and sort yard sale items. Sellers needed for Saturday from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Clean-up crew needed from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday. Students can earn service hours for helping. Please contact Julia Wingfield at wingfield_j@hcrs-va.org if you can help at any time on the 8th or 9th.

Box Top News

Thank you everyone who participated in our Spring Box Top contest. Kenadi Knight was our $50.00 gift card winner to Game Stop. We did not meet our goal of $2000.00 this year. We were about $700.00 away from meeting our goal. However, we did bring in $1300.00 in Box Tops this year. Thank you everyone who participated. We use these funds for education, field trips and activities for the kids. Please continue collecting your Box Tops. Thanks!

IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM MRS. MAIN IN THE LIBRARY

All elementary reading logs from our February reading incentive are due on Friday, March 1st, or Mon. March 4th at the latest. Here are some reminders:

Add up minutes, pages or books (according to class) and put total on the given sheet.
Be sure student's name is on all sheets and that a parent verifies and signs the reading log.
Turn in reading log to your teacher or to Mrs. Main on Friday, March 1st but no later than Mon. March 4th .
Those students who complete their class goal and turn in their signed reading logs will earn a free dress day for Friday, March 9th as we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss! In addition, those students are eligible for prizes on that day!

Students in grades 3-5 are competing in Sylvan Learning Center's reading contest simultaneously with our incentive. Stay tuned for an announcement of winners the week of March 4th. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Main. (main_h@hcrs-va.org)

Summer Camp at Holy Cross Are you interested in hosting a fun, week-long camp for Holy Cross and other area students?Camp topics can range from cooking, musical instruction, science, writing, art, foreign language, etc. Think outside of the box and have fun with creating your program! If you'd like to host a camp this summer, please complete the attached form and return to Amy Lawson, Director of Enrollment & Marketing, by February 28. Please be as specific as possible as the information provided here will be used in our program brochure.

Middle School News
The annual Middle School Etiquette Dinner will be held on March 2, 2013, from 6:30 until 9:30. All middle school students are requested to attend with a parent, other family member, or family friend as an escort. Students will receive an invitation in the mail with required RSVP. Students and escorts pay $10 each to cover the cost of the event. Look for more information soon on this unique and fun gathering!

4th Graders Have Been Busy!

Sean Sublette from WSET visited our school to discuss the causes and effects of weather with 4th and 5th graders.

On Wednesday, February 20th the fourth graders assisted Candlelight Ministries in delivering monthly food boxes to the residents of McGurk House. Candlelight Ministries is a local ministry whose goal is to reach out and serve the elderly and physically handicapped with food and other services. They currently serve over 1300 individuals in the Lynchburg, Appomattox, Evington and Amherst areas. Some of the fourth graders even had an opportunity to meet their "Gram-Pal" (pen pal) who they have been writing throughout this school year. The fourth graders realized how easy it is to reach out and help others through service.

ALERT: FACTS deadline is March 1, 2013 to receive financial aid for 2013-14 year.

As we head into re-enrollment season, we want to remind our families that Holy Cross Catholic School is able to offer a limited amount of funds for financial aid. FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment will be conducting the financial needs analysis for Holy Cross Catholic School for the upcoming school year. All families seeking financial aid must complete a FACTS application.

To apply for school financial aid:

The following information is required in order for FACTS to process your application for financial aid from Holy Cross School:

Completed online application.
Payment of the application fee ($30.)
Copies of your 2012 or 2011 tax returns including all schedules.

If you have any business income (rent, K-1, etc.), you MUST submit copies of your 2012 tax return, including schedules.

Copies of your 2012 W2 for both you and your spouse.
Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security Income, Welfare, Child Support, Food Stamps, Workers' Compensation, and TANF.
