PTO Yard Sale
Please start getting things together for the annual PTO yard sale on March 9.  We are also in need of plastic bags to give to customers during the sale.  Please start saving them and get them to school the week of the sale.  Thanks!


PTO NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FOR YARD SALE
Annual Yard Sale- March 9th- Volunteers needed Friday, March 8, from 2:30 until 7:00 PM to set-up and sort yard sale items.  Sellers needed for Saturday from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  Clean-up crew needed from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday. Students can earn service hours for helping.  Please contact Julia Wingfield at [email protected] if you can help at any time on the 8th or 9th.

A big and DELICIOUS thank you to Traci Noyes for baking muffins for our recent 5th and 8th grade parents coffees!

 

 

 

Holy Cross Middle and High School students recently participated in Aeropostale's Teens for Jeans.  They collected around 40 pairs of jeans, which were dropped off at our local Aeropostale for distribution to homeless teens in our area.  Thanks to all who helped in this project!

 

 

 

Holy Cross Forensics News

Congratulations to the HC Forensics team once again. Results from the Virginia Catholic League Championship on Feb. 9th: Meghann Hansen and Daniel Casker placed 4th in Public Forum and qualified for States. Elizabeth Main placed 3rd in Student Congress and had already qualified for states. Annie David placed 4th in Student Congress and is now qualified for states. Jessica Winters was named a State Qualifier as well.

At previous meets, Gabie Braxton and Maddy Brewer, Lexi Quinn, and Colin Baker were state qualifiers. Thus, good luck to all of these students as they travel to Virginia Catholic League Championships on March 2nd at Madison County High School!

There are about 12 more days left to complete the reading goal for our "Read across America" incentive for February. Be sure that your child has met at least half or more of the goal set for his/her class. Please contact Mrs. Main if you have any questions or need a new form! ([email protected])  We want 100% participation!! We will celebrate with a birthday tribute to Dr. Seuss in March and free dress and prizes for all who turn in their completed reading record. Students in grades 3-5 have an opportunity to win prizes from Sylvan Learning Center as well!

 

 

  

Yearbook Editors Request Old Photos
The editors would like to have some old photos as background on transition pages of the yearbook. If you have old family photos lying around (your grandparents' time), please send them in to the office in an envelope marked with your name.  The photos will be scanned and returned to you.


 

 

The Elementary Student Government is sponsoring another Cici's Pizza Night on Tuesday, February 19th from 4 PM until 9 PM.  The class (Pre-K - 12th) with the most participation will win a pizza party.  The school earns 10% of all the Holy Cross sales.   Thank you for your support!

Young Author Judges Needed
Ever want to be a judge?  Now is your chance!  Our HCS students are submitting their books of fiction, poetry, and essay for the annual Young Authors Contest.  We will hold our school's judging Tuesday and Wednesday, February 26 and 27,8:00-6:00, in the conference room at school. If you can help out with this, please notify Mrs. Schemmel through her email: [email protected]  Thank you!
Only four people volunteered to serve as judges last week and we need many more!! 

 

 

Girl Scout Troop 463 led by Dianne Delledera held a "Valentine Party" for the residents of the McGurk House on Thursday, February 14, 2013.  The girls read poems, sang songs, played instruments, and passed out food and gifts.  It was an afternoon of true love and friendship!  Thank you Troop 463!  Girls Scouts -  Fiona and Bitty Holderbach, Madison Luther, Alex McCray, Rebecca Pontius, and Ivy Schumacher.  Thank you special helper, Sadie Pontius!
 


 

Are You Interested in Becoming a Host Family to a Foreign Exchange Student?  We have several international students interested in attending Holy Cross next school year and we are in need of host families.  We have several families who are currently hosting a student or have in the past that are happy to answer your questions as well as share how fulfilling their experience has been.  Please contact the Admissions Office is you're interested in learning more.

  

Summer Camp at Holy Cross  Are you interested in hosting a fun, week-long camp for Holy Cross and other area students?Camp topics can range from cooking, musical instruction, science, writing, art, foreign language, etc.  Think outside of the box and have fun with creating your program!  If you'd like to host a camp this summer, please complete the attached form and return to Amy Lawson, Director of Enrollment & Marketing, by February 28.  Please be as specific as possible as the information provided here will be used in our program brochure.

Middle School News
The annual Middle School Etiquette Dinner will be held on March 2, 2013, from 6:30 until 9:30.  All middle school students are requested to attend with a parent, other family member, or family friend as an escort.  Students will receive an invitation in the mail with required RSVP.  Students and escorts pay $10 each to cover the cost of the event.  Look for more information soon on this unique and fun gathering!

Dear Parents or Guardians:

 

ALERT:  FACTS deadline is March 1, 2013 to receive financial aid for 2013-14 year.

 

As we head into re-enrollment season, we want to remind our families that Holy Cross Catholic School is able to offer a limited amount of funds for financial aid. FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment will be conducting the financial needs analysis for Holy Cross Catholic School for the upcoming school year.  All families seeking financial aid must complete a FACTS application.

 

To apply for school financial aid:

 

The following information is required in order for FACTS to process your application for financial aid from Holy Cross School:

  1. Completed online application.
  2. Payment of the application fee ($30.)
  3. Copies of your 2012 or 2011 tax returns including all schedules.
    • If you have any business income (rent, K-1, etc.), you MUST submit copies of your 2012 tax return, including schedules.
  4. Copies of your 2012 W2 for both you and your spouse.
  5. Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security Income, Welfare, Child Support, Food Stamps, Workers' Compensation, and TANF.
  6. Send the supporting documents to FACTS:
    • FAX to: 1-866-315-9264 OR
    • Scan documents and send to FACTS online OR
    • Bring documents to school to have scanned to send to FACTS (please make appointment with Ann Hoffman)
