Congratulations to School Board Member

Ed Polloway, a member of the Holy Cross School Board and a member of our Admissions and Marketing Committee, has been named as one of 15 scholars to receive the national designation of Fellow of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.  This distinction is presented after review and consideration by a committee of leaders in the association.  The full article may be found in Business Briefs section of the February 4 News & Advance.

 

 

 

 

Vision Screening
Holy Cross is working with Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic. We will be conducting a free vision screening to our students on Tuesday, February 12th.  The screening is set up primarily for students in grades PK, K, 3, 7 and 10th.  Any student who you feel may have a possible vision problem can also be screened, regardless of their age or grade.

 

If you know of a student who may benefit from this free vision screening, please email Fran Harvey as soon as possible at harvey_f@hcrs-va.org.

Holy Cross School Celebrates Healthy Hearts!
Our school will recognize Healthy Heart month on February 14th.  Students may wear pants (jeans or khakis) with red shirts.  Our PE and Health teachers will promote cardio health and provide students with information about how to keep this important muscle strong.  Students are creating posters and flyers that keep us informed about how bad habits can damage our hearts and how healthy habits can strengthen our hearts.  The healthier lunch choices will be marked with red hearts to help our students make good choices. Parents who wear red may attend the Varsity Girls evening basketball game starting at 4:30 for free! 


Yearbook Editors Request Old Photos
The editors would like to have some old photos as background on transition pages of the yearbook. If you have old family photos lying around (your grandparents' time), please send them in to the office in an envelope marked with your name.  The photos will be scanned and returned to you.


 

  The Elementary Student Government is sponsoring another Cici's Pizza Night on Tuesday, February 19th from 4 PM until 9 PM.  The class (Pre-K - 12th) with the most participation will win a pizza party.  The school earns 10% of all the Holy Cross sales.   Thank you for your support!

Young Author Judges Needed
Ever want to be a judge?  Now is your chance!  Our HCS students are submitting their books of fiction, poetry, and essay for the annual Young Authors Contest.  We will hold our school's judging Tuesday and Wednesday, February 26 and 27,8:00-6:00, in the conference room at school. If you can help out with this, please notify Mrs. Schemmel through her email: schemmel_s@hcrs-va.org  Thank you!

 


 

Are You Interested in Becoming a Host Family to a Foreign Exchange Student?  We have several international students interested in attending Holy Cross next school year and we are in need of host families.  We have several families who are currently hosting a student or have in the past that are happy to answer your questions as well as share how fulfilling their experience has been.  Please contact the Admissions Office is you're interested in learning more.

"Read across America" is underway and elementary students are busy reading and recording their pages, books, or minutes. We will be about halfway through this reading incentive on Valentines Day! Make sure your kids are on target with the goal for his/her classroom. Those who complete the minimum reading will receive a free dress day when we celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, as well as prizes from the treasure chest!

Sylvan Learning Center will be awarding prizes to the top readers in grades 3-5 as part of their annual Read across America contest! Details have been sent to those students!!

Summer Camp at Holy Cross  Are you interested in hosting a fun, week-long camp for Holy Cross and other area students?Camp topics can range from cooking, musical instruction, science, writing, art, foreign language, etc.  Think outside of the box and have fun with creating your program!  If you'd like to host a camp this summer, please complete the attached form and return to Amy Lawson, Director of Enrollment & Marketing, by February 28.  Please be as specific as possible as the information provided here will be used in our program brochure.

Middle School News
The annual Middle School Etiquette Dinner will be held on March 2, 2013, from 6:30 until 9:30.  All middle school students are requested to attend with a parent, other family member, or family friend as an escort.  Students will receive an invitation in the mail with required RSVP.  Students and escorts pay $10 each to cover the cost of the event.  Look for more information soon on this unique and fun gathering!

Dear Parents or Guardians:

 

ALERT:  FACTS deadline is March 1, 2013 to receive financial aid for 2013-14 year.

 

As we head into re-enrollment season, we want to remind our families that Holy Cross Catholic School is able to offer a limited amount of funds for financial aid. FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment will be conducting the financial needs analysis for Holy Cross Catholic School for the upcoming school year.  All families seeking financial aid must complete a FACTS application.

 

To apply for school financial aid:

 

The following information is required in order for FACTS to process your application for financial aid from Holy Cross School:

  1. Completed online application.
  2. Payment of the application fee ($30.)
  3. Copies of your 2012 or 2011 tax returns including all schedules.
    • If you have any business income (rent, K-1, etc.), you MUST submit copies of your 2012 tax return, including schedules.
  4. Copies of your 2012 W2 for both you and your spouse.
  5. Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security Income, Welfare, Child Support, Food Stamps, Workers' Compensation, and TANF.
  6. Send the supporting documents to FACTS:
    • FAX to: 1-866-315-9264 OR
    • Scan documents and send to FACTS online OR
    • Bring documents to school to have scanned to send to FACTS (please make appointment with Ann Hoffman)
