Ora Arthornsombat won 4th place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Senator Elizabeth Main placed 5th in Student Congress! Go Gaels!

  


Chick-fil-a Lunch
As part of our celebration of Catholic Schools Week, we will be serving Chick-fil-a Lunches.  Orders must be turned in with money by Wednesday, January 23.  Lunch includes sandwich, chips and a drink, extra sandwiches can be ordered for an additional $2.50 per sandwich. Pre-K and Kindergarten Enrollment for 2013-14:  Applications for admission are now being accepted for new students in our pre-k and kindergarten classes.  Current families with children already enrolled in our current pre-k and kindergarten classes do not have to reapply for the next grade level.  You will receive your re-enrollment information in early February. 

 

If you have a child who does not currently attend Holy Cross and wishes to enroll in one of these classes for next school year, please obtain an application for admission from Amy Lawson, Director of Enrollment & Marketing. The application deadline is February 1st in order to be assessed in mid-February.

 

Help us spread the word to prospective families about two great upcoming admissions events:

Winter Open House - January 29th at 5:00 p.m.

  

K Day": a Day for our Prospective Pre-K and K families - January 31  Reservations are required.  Current families who wish to enroll a new child into our pre-k or k classes for the 2013-14 school year are encouraged to attend this event.  Please contact Amy Lawson at lawson_a@hcrs-va.org for more information

CHRISTMAS WISH LIST: Thanks once again to those who  donated a book to the library in honor of a teacher or loved one this Christmas through our "Wish tree" program. We will be adding 25 new books to the library! If you took an ornament off the tree in the lobby and haven't returned it, please contact Mrs. Main: main_h@hcrs-va.org  

 

 

ACCELERATED READER NEWS            

A.R. STORE: Students in grades 2-5 will be "shopping" at the Accelerated Reader store next Wednesday, January 16th. Mrs. Main is looking for donations of any "prizes" you may have around that you would like to donate. Perhaps you are starting early on spring cleaning and have unwanted items: (unwrapped happy meal toys, gently used or new other items such as beanie babies, etc.) If you have any items such as these, send them on to the elementary library. Thanks so much.

1st GRADE A.R.   We are excited to report that 1st graders will begin the Accelerated Reader program this week. Parents of 1st graders will receive some information about the program.

Free Vision Screening 
Holy Cross is working with Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic, and
we will be conducting a free vision screening for our students on Tuesday, February 12th.  The screening is set up primarily for students in grades PK, K, 3, 7 and 10th.  However, any student who you feel may have a possible vision problem can also be screened, regardless of their age or grade.  Please contact Fran Harvey by email at harvey_f@hcrs-va.org to set up testing for your child.

Dear Parents or Guardians:

 

ALERT:  FACTS deadline is March 1, 2013 to receive financial aid for 2013-14 year.

 

As we head into re-enrollment season, we want to remind our families that Holy Cross Catholic School is able to offer a limited amount of funds for financial aid. FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment will be conducting the financial needs analysis for Holy Cross Catholic School for the upcoming school year.  All families seeking financial aid must complete a FACTS application.

 

To apply for school financial aid:

 

The following information is required in order for FACTS to process your application for financial aid from Holy Cross School:

  1. Completed online application.
  2. Payment of the application fee ($30.)
  3. Copies of your 2012 or 2011 tax returns including all schedules.
    • If you have any business income (rent, K-1, etc.), you MUST submit copies of your 2012 tax return, including schedules.
  4. Copies of your 2012 W2 for both you and your spouse.
  5. Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security Income, Welfare, Child Support, Food Stamps, Workers' Compensation, and TANF.
  6. Send the supporting documents to FACTS:
    • FAX to: 1-866-315-9264 OR
    • Scan documents and send to FACTS online OR
    • Bring documents to school to have scanned to send to FACTS (please make appointment with Ann Hoffman)
