Thanksgiving wishes from Mrs. Culbreth ...

Dear Families,

I wish each of you a very blessed Thanksgiving.  It is hard to believe we have completed our first marking period and are well on the way to finishing our first semester.  We can be so proud of the many accomplishments of our students in academics, sports and extracurricular activities.  We never have a dull moment at Holy Cross School, and we have much to celebrate!  I know I am very thankful for the many blessings your children give to us each day.  God bless you and yours at this Thanksgiving time.

Congratulations to Maddie Luther who was named a winner in the National Family Week essay contest sponsored by the Presbyterian Homes and Family Services and the Family Alliance.  Maddie will be honored with her family on Monday evening, November 19 at 6 pm at the James River Conference Center.  Congratulations to Maddie!  Thank you to Mrs. Adams and to all our fourth graders who participated; you showed the Lynchburg community what strong writers we have at Holy Cross School.  Well done!

CHRISTMAS TREES, WREATHS AND GREENERY will be sold at Holy Cross School this holiday season.  Mr. Chas Seabolt, alum of Holy Cross, will sell trees, wreaths and greenery beginning Wednesday, November 20 after 2 pm.  He will sell these items each afternoon and evening after school hours and on the weekends.  As we know more information about types of trees and prices, we will let you know!

Elementary/Middle School Drama Club Poinsettia Sale
PoinsettiaIt's hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner and that means that it is time for our annual Poinsettia sale.  Our beautiful plants come from Nelson's Garden Center in Forest, their color is bright, blooms are gorgeous, and they are definitely a decorative piece to include in your holiday decorating.  This is our one big fundraiser to help defer the cost of our spring show.  So, we are asking for your support.  Plants will be delivered the first week of December.  Click below to download the order form!!

(Human) Nature Notes
November
The Land of Misfit iToys
by Dr. Justice
Are social media and mobile digital devices leaving you a little "out of the loop?" Do these statements apply to you?
__ My child set up a Facebook page for me but I haven't checked it in 10 months
__ I go uncomfortably silent when others mention texting, Twitter or Tumblr
__ My arms are not long enough to see the keys on my Blackberry
__I am not clear on the difference between iPad and iPod
__I avoid Wi-Fi hotspots because that just plain sounds sketchy

Or perhaps you are techno-savvy enough to have and use these things but are starting to wonder why people bother being "in the loop" at all? After all, how many more pictures of your adorable new nephew can you possibly scroll through? Why should you have to learn a foreign language: btw idk lol ttyl <3? Here's something to consider: social media can be easily used to avoid interactions with people! Mobile devices can get you ever more disconnected from others! Sounds delightful? omg ikr!
