Dual Enrollment Biology is conducting a Field Ornithology Project.
The goals are to appreciate the biodiversity right here on our campus and connect field biology with topical discussions in lectures. For example, current lectures are on meiosis and while in the field we discussed how the sex chromosomes in birds are the reverse of that of humans: females are XY and males are XX, so the female egg determines the sex off the offspring. Thus far we have documented the occurrence of 29 bird species on our campus. We wanted to share the list (in the order we found them) and hopefully spread some enthusiasm for the project.
